Traveling threw Shaderoot is slow going. The night is almost upon you and setting up camp is a must. Your bodies are to tired to travel on much farther. The forest noises are becoming less comforting and more threatening. You can only imagine how dark it will get once the sun has fully set. The temperature has already dropped around 5 degrees and it is going to get colder.

It is around 55 degrees fahrenheit and will probably drop to around 50 possibly lower.

The party finds a grove of trees where the roots have grown together in almost a perfect wall sort of. The trees roots have grown out towards one another leaving the middle in between them rootless. Over time this area has eroded leaving a impreshion, thus making the root walls even higher. The patch is about 20 feet wide and long, being a good 5 feet lower that the forest floor.

Once the party sets up camp Aive and Gefuth waste no time in mapping out the caves. Yet Gefuth is no map maker and his drawings are crude at best. Aive you begin to wonder if he is in fact drawing the cave or having fun with the drawing utensils, making things up like a story in his head. Gefuth explains while "mapping" that there is more than one cave. His tribe moved back and forth from a few different cave systems. The one that they lived in most recently, when the devils came, does have a back entrance of sorts. There is a small shaft that allows entrance threw the ceiling in one of the caves chambers. The passage threw the shaft is small though and the medium sized character will find it difficult to get threw here. Though it may be possible if they squeeze, probably having to remove their gear and enter just in regular clothes.

Once the sun has set the forest quickly becomes pitch black. The only one that can see is Gefuth.

Does the group decide to make a campfire or have something for a light source.

As the darkness has quickly fallen, the party realizes a little to late just how dark Shaderoot can get on an overcast night. Lwentano and Myrrani have misjudged their night vision as they to are unable to see as well. Val being a little concerned, manages to scrounge together a small pile of leaves and twigs.

After lighting the fire Val begins looking just around her for some bigger sticks, so that she can see. Lwentano now having his vision back is not surprised to see Gefuth has disappeared.

Aive he has taken the piece of chalk with him.

What are your actions now?

Lwentano turns from looking at the camp, around to look back out into the forest. As he does he is shocked to see a large maw coming at him, it locks onto him and chomps down, dragging him 10 feet further from the camp. The maw belongs, he sees, to a 15 foot long giant centipede. The screeching sound of metal on metal reverberates threw the night, followed by a crunch, and then clunky thud as Lwentano is released from the bite.

Now just so everyone knows, I rolled an 18 and 19 for move silently. With all the rustling and confusion going on I put the actual number for move silently around 22, 23 with modifiers. I just now rolled a natural 20 for the attack also, no joke. Lwentano you take 14 damage from a critical bite attack on your torso. I need a save vrs the poison, Fort DC 14, or you take an additional -3 to your Dexterity, temporarily.

Val and Aive while they have now got a small fire going. Are now in company of 4 centipedes the size cats. They have burrowed up from the ground, crawling towards the 2 PC's, hungry maws clamping in anticipation of their next meal.

This concludes the surprise round. I need initiative rolls, and actions with rolls, from the group.

Just to be clear I am picturing this as Lwentano being out of the 20 foot camp area. Standing just outside of it, past the 5 foot root wall. The way the lighting is Val and Aive are not going to be able to see Lwentano being attacked, though they will hear it. Aive and Val are down inside the 20 by 20 camp area, in base with the 4 centipedes. Myrrani returns from gathering a bundle of sticks and a few small old branches (outside of the camp area near Lwentano) to see Lwentano being bitten, she cannot see the centipedes in the camp area, only the heads of Val and Aive.

Val thinks on her toes and hops over the root wall, flask of lamp oil and a burning brand in hand. She narrowly avoids a poisonous bite as one of the centipedes gets spooked while she runs by.

Lwentano wildly swings his blade at the oversized vermin. The sword connects with its maw but bounces off. The huge centipedes maw strikes back but finds Lwentano's shield.

Myrrani looses a magic missile from thin air, it flys to its target with uncanny accuracy, cracking its shell armor, leaving a scorch.

Within the camp area three of the centipedes take the bait, chomping down on meats and cheeses.

Aive is left to fend for himself though. As one of the centipedes moves to bite him he brings down his boot on its head. There is a crunch, the centipede curls up hissing, twitches, then stops.

Aive then lets a few rocks fly from his sling. He connects both bullets with his targets. Two more centipedes lay twitching, leaving only one alive. It is occupied, eating a piece of meat.

This concludes round 1, I have rolls from Lwentano for the next 3 rounds. What are the actions of the party for round 2.

so someone else will need to post for us/me, so just have me do whatever you think is needed / and then hopefully heal him back to positive numbers so he can defend himself / Valdalen grabs a flask of lamp oil and a burning brand from the fire and heads out toward Lwentano

From all this I am getting a picture in my head of Val throwing a flask of lamp oil at the centipede. Sense he is wanting to lay on hands for Lwentano I will figure he throws it after he has layed on hands. This putting him within a more accurate throwing range. Being that he has moved, healed, and thrown an item, that will be all the actions he can take on round 2. He will be able to try and light the oil the next round. Entering within 10 feet of the centipede allows it an attack of opportunity, so Val will get attacked this way.

Val runs over to Lwentano who is battling the beast face to face. As she does the centipede becomes exited at her movements and bites. Being more a toying bite, testing her reactions the bite misses. As it dos she smashes the flask of lamp oil on is head. Val then lays her hands onto Lwentano's back, at the shoulders as she had seen her superiors do. She feels a fire within her gut as white light encompasses her body then runs down her arms into Lwentano. (Lwentano has been healed 4 hit points.)

Aive uses his sap to smash the remaining centipede, it is dead.

Lwentano thrusts his blade at the giant centipede but it rears back, making his swing a bit short. The centipede retaliates trying to bite at Lwentano's sword, but realizes it is sharp and stops short, hissing at it.

Mirrani looses another magic missile with similar results as before. She looks on pleased with her constancy.

This is the end of round 2. I have actions and rolls from Mirrani and Lwentano up to round 5. Val and Aive please post your actions with rolls for round 3, or up to round 5 preferably.

Val steps into the fray swinging her blade at the creature as it trys to bite Lwentano once again. Her blade connects but barely, not enough to do damage, its carapace deflects the force of the blow.

Another magic missile sails in, crackling after impact.

Val's attack and the missle hit about the same area just below the creatures head. The carapace has been weakened here and is visibly damaged.

Aive tumbles in from behind trying to catch the beast off guard. His torch seems to have irritated the centipedes night eyes though. As it sees this light source suddenly come in, the centipede attacks. Immediately its head ignites in a ball of fire. The centipede hisses and thrashes its head about, fire trailing behind. Aive ducks back out of range of the now enraged thing.

Lwentano seizes the opportunity, spotting a soft spot under the giant centipedes flaming head. In a flash Lwentano strikes, he feels the blade strike home. The centipede lets out a sickening squeak.

Feeling that he has sunk his blade into a vital area Lwentano pulls the imbedded blade down. Angling it so that its tip is twisting in and about where the creatures brain would be.

The giant centipede quickly stops all movement, it is dead. The fire from the oil dies shortly after.

The rest of the night passes without any more interruptions. The forest comes back to life once the sun rises. As it does the temperature rises as well. The party is rested and ready for the day.

Lwentano your entire torso area is heavily bruised and sore.
Your HP should be 16 now, 20 if Val lays on hands again.
