Lwentano slowly sips his ale as he does not want to get too into his drink this night. He watches as his new friend paces the room as if in deep thought. He thinks there there is something that the young man is not telling him but he does agree that wine is much better than this cheap swill they call ale. HE just wishes to hang on to his hard earned money for now. He silently watches everyone in the room as his friend makes his way to the barkeep. Hoping that they learn something else may prove to be a quick night of sleep of a nice night of sleep.

I hope that we can get a good night of rest before we take off searching for halflings and magic books. He mumbles into his drink. Seeing the bar maid he raises his ale to her and take a good swig.

Valdien was at once both disappointed and enthused. Goblins. Well, goblins maybe would have to do, they WERE all evil, after all... Weren't they? Of course they were... But what about this halfling Tobolar apparently killing the wizard Nargoz? What did that have to do with the price of wine in Moonshae? These names, too - so harsh and discordant - this was a rough kingdom in some ways.

The paladin sighed and returned to the table to update Lwentano on the situation, and began to eat the plate of Nog, then suddenly wondered why a free meal was given the two. Still, it was quite good, so no point in letting it get any colder - but still, definitely, after the meal, Valdien would ask about the gesture. But right now, delicious "Catfish, Giant" - Valdien made sure to use the proper etiquette and manners learned while a page and squire, just to keep in practice.

While he sips his ale and eats his fish he ponders all that this knight has told him.

Goblins to the north can give us some extra money in our pockets but I think the real thing here is the halfling and the book. I am not sure that the two of us can do much tonight. I say we sleep on it and then go talk to the cleric tomorrow to see what information he can give us. May haps we can sort all this out and get rid of the goblins while finding this magical book.

"That sounds like an excellent idea, friend. The Bear Moon Inn is my next destination." mumbles Sir Valdien, rising and shouldering his backpack after stuffing the last of the tasty fish in his mouth a bit impolitely. He nods thanks to the departing Bareth as he and Lwenteno head out the tavern's door.

The paladin travels in silence mostly, on the walk to the North Gate, taking in the subdued atmosphere of nighttime within the fortified walls of the town. Lonely yet comforting at the same time.

"Bareth bids you well and demands you give us a wonderful deal on rooms because we are fine clientel!" Valdien says in merry, smiling jest as he swings open the door to the inn and looks around for the hosteler to give him coin. Valdien sighs inwardly, tired from the brief artificial projection of good humor, but it seemed likely to help soften up the innkeeper. A nice private room, soft bed, and hopefully quiet and peaceful sleep - that will be so nice...

THe walk to the inn was peaceful and gave time for him to reflect all they have learned so far. Hopefully a good night of rest can help too. How long has it been since he has laid in a real bed? These past few days have been a eye opener to him.

I will take a room too if you do not mind good inn keep.

Valdien blinks, stunned by the totally unexpected turn of events and intensity of the dwarf. "Now, see here just a moment..." he begins, looking at the unassuming child, but stops, realizing this is the ticket, and a holy charge given by a righteous cleric of Heironeous, not that there was any danger of the young knight refusing it, regardless.

Devils? Imps? Valdien smiled wryly, realizing it would soon be time to come to grips with personal discernment about where religious mysticism and symbolism departed from the alleged reality of *actual* infernal creatures, as this priest was claiming.

Valdien tries to get a handle on what was going on.

"Good Father Grumar, if the wizard lies dead already, his book already stolen - what are these creatures after? Did you have dealings with Nargoz, get along?"

The aspiring holy warrior considers the scruffy youngster in concern, sighing heavily and exchanging a look with Lwentano. This lad must be taken to a dilapidated Heironeous temple in the ruins of Jorine, in Shaderoot Forest? What in the world for? That didn't make any sense whatsoever to the paladin, who, though respectful, simply could not swallow the whole thing quietly.

"If I may be bold enough to understand this - why, Father? What use could there be for this boy, being at a caved-in and probably deconsecrated temple? What could possibly be accomplished by him anywhere, let alone without your guidance and no other people?

It is a likely dangerous trip, even if we both accompany him as asked, and I cannot fathom the need to put this child in danger to have him wind up at a heap of rubble. Is this strange quest a true command from Lord Heironeous? I will answer as bound, if so, though the logic of the situation escapes me."

Great, a kid. Babysitting. And a long trip, with him. To a crumbled building long past its time of providing succor to the needy. And would Lwenetano go? An elf, seeming thrown in by pure fate, no adherent of Heironeous, for sure.

Valdien had nothing against it, but was not used to much company - well, any, and to go from solitude to not one but two traveling companions... The journey was going to be trying. Offering a wan smile to Naylin, Sir Valdien thinks aloud.

"Well... We'll have to call you something else if what Father Grumar is true, we don't want any slip ups or problems, so how about... Jaques... Ehhh... What is the... Jack, I think. How about that, young friend, Jack? Perhaps you can tell us what you know of all this as we are on our way."

First the outrageous room price of a complete gold crown, the kind of price that causes fights. It was a nice and rare sleep, but a whole gold coin? Absolutely ridiculous. And that was with a *discount*! Now, a babysitting and escort task which will take who knows how long, or how far. Yet Valdien is not sour, as this is the first promise of actual upholding the good, protecting the innocent, braving danger and finding adventure for proving self-worth. The future divinely blessed knight begins securing pack straps, armor, weapons and shields in anticipation.

A tall young man walks in, he is fair and has long neck length blond hair. He wears chain mail, and has a longsword by his side. He walks over to the group, showing clear interest in the young squire. "Hello do any of you know where I can find a Sir Valdien, as I am his brother", Gabriel asks cutting in to the conversation somewhat, understand he may be being a bit rude, but he didn't care at the moment as he had spent many days following his sibling's trail.

Lwentano shares in the fact that he does not like to babysit some still wet behind the ear boy. But since it is for a good cause he will go along with it. As he listens to the explanations the dwarf has to say he nods. He will take this child to the ruins as see what transpires from there. Maybe he can place a few arrows in some Goblins on the way north.

I will take the charge of getting to the ruins. I hope we can get him there safely.
