EDUCATION WEEK PARTICIPANTS TOLD TO STUDY WITH INTENSITY, CONSISTENCY
See https://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/60683

PROVO, Utah - Joseph McConkie has been asked how his late father, Bruce R. McConkie, studied the scriptures, as if the Apostle had some unknown method that helped him become such a respected gospel scholar. "I will reveal the great and grand secret," McConkie told a crowd of Education Week participants Monday. "It is that there is no secret method." Effective study has nothing to do with the marking system a person uses or other physical methods, McConkie said. But "it has everything to do with intensity and consistency."

Mormon Doctrine has to be one of the main reasons why the name of Bruce R. McConkie is so popular. Many have claimed that it is not official Church Doctrine (Discussed in another Thread), but it is interesting to note that many Members use this book, it is sold plentifully, and most Members tend to believe everything it says as they do with the scriptures, so it is no wonder he is so popular even after death.

Bruce R. McConkie Studies Doctrine Mormon

I would like to say a lot of things but probably will fit in the LDS Mature Section wink.gif Just let me say that Bruce R. Mc Conkie was so popular not only for the book Mormon Doctrine but also for his well known orthodox LDS approach on a variety of subjects.

I think we have quite a bit on him in the LDS Mature Section, not as one Thread, but bits and pieces - you may wish to do a Search. I did find some quotes that said that some of the prominent Brethren of the time found his work remarkable, while others thought it was full of errors and should not be republished. Other than that it was quite an undertaking to create a dictionary as it were, and Bruce R. McConkie should be commended for that regardless of the exactness / correctness of the book. Maybe it is his work that inspired the LDS Bible Dictionary - who knows?

I will add some material for discussion in the LDS mature section. Mormon Doctrine is accurate in some things and completly off in others. Nevertheless, the only thing that Bruce R. Mc Conkie used to do that personally feel odd about while reading some of his talks is teaching certain things as doctrinal when they weren't, but they were just his opinion.

After more than 50 years, Bruce R. McConkie's Mormon Doctrine has gone out of print. Deseret Book decided not to reprint the volume due to "low sales".
