Back a long time ago when I was in school, we used to nickname the really smart kids in class, a nerd. I have a friend that knows he is a nerd. He'll even tell you he's a nerd. But he can build a computer and customize it to his liking. He can also fix computers. He's helped me a time or two to fix mine. :) I remember once back in school he got expelled for hacking into the school computer system. He says he was trying to see if he could actually do it. :
I don't think that I'm a nerd. I mean, I am smart when it comes to certain areas, but not completely and totally knowledgable about things. I still find myself learning about things everyday. :)
I don't know the answer of that question : but just to label someone as 'nerd' is bad
Now, I know sometimes people joke around a lil bit and I don't see anything wrong with it as long as nobody feel hurt but I do know, that some people pick on what they call 'nerds and losers' and I think it is so cruel!
What's a nerd? I think is a way to call someone when a person is very smart.

According to https://www.m-w.com/dictionary/nerd
Main Entry: nerd
Pronunciation: 'n&rd
Function: noun
Etymology: perhaps from nerd, a creature in the children's book If I Ran the Zoo (1950) by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel)
: an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits <computer nerds>
I guess I have learned over the years to consider myself a nerd of sorts. After actually reading the dictionary definition I am not sure if I totally qualify as a nerd or not yet I have slavishly devoted to intellectual pursuits of computer sciences.
Offtopic but, I believe this is the first time I have ever actually used the word slavishly. ![]() |
