Terrible story. Sometimes humans can still surprise me for how wicked their mind can be. I agree with other posters, death penalty would be appropriate. But also a sentence to life would be not bad: it would grant this couple a lot of time to regret what they did and a long time to learn how to defend themselves from the welcome party that their cellmates will most likely prepare.
