As a Mormon do you think that praying your team wins really works? Aren't the other team doing the same? Could it be in a way sacrilegious?

It could be considered sacrilegious yet little children pray for similar things. I think if we take into consideration the needs in the world right now, we shouldn't pray for vain things.
