Muslim? Islam Studies

I was taught no bias toward muslims in either school or at home. I grew up in a southern college town however, and we had an extremely diverse population. I have a friend that is a muslim, I should bring him here so he can discuss his religion if he is comfortable with talking about it openly. When I think of 9/11 and the terrorists the first thing that comes to my mind is the KKK. They of course have very irrational religious beliefs. Being from Mississippi, I have experienced racism in several forms. The silver lining to the terrorist attacks is that the population of racists in Mississippi seems to be dwindling rather than rising. Of course, it could just all be in my head or my home town.

Muslim

While I have been raised to have love of all types of people. Since 9/11, unfortunately the first thing I think when I hear the term Muslim is terrorist. I know it is wrong and judgemental of me to think that. Ultimately I don't feel any discourse towards Muslims and still regard them with respect and appreciation for there cultures and beliefs. But the question was what do you think of first when you hear the word. I now have to fight my first thought because of radical religious extremists in the Islamic faith.
