421 Sorry, cleartext sessions are not accepted on this server

Comments: I'm trying to install a package within SMF admin but I keep getting "421 Sorry, cleartext sessions are not accepted on this server" Each time it asks for my FTP login details. What's causing that?

This usually refers to a security permission issue. If you're trying to upload or change files from a script then you may need to manually give permissions to the files that need to be changed.

I recently had this problem with a client's site.

Ask your host to disable TLS Encryption Support or if you have access to WHM you can login, go to: FTP Server Configuration and disable it from the first field.

SMF's package manager does not support TLS at this time.
