Georgia College Student Sues Over Religious Belief

Georgia college student sues over religious beliefs

AUGUSTA, Ga. - An Augusta State University graduate student sued the university in federal court Wednesday asserting professors told her to change her religious beliefs in order to remain in her counseling program. According to the lawsuit filed by the Alliance Defense Fund, Jennifer Keeton, 24, has voiced her Christian beliefs inside and outside the classroom on homosexuality and other biblical teachings. ASU faculty has ordered her to undergo a remediation plan, which would include diversity sensitivity workshops, or face expulsion from the counseling program. Keeton plans to become a school counselor and says she refuses to change her religious beliefs. Ref. Source 5

I think a person can go through some of this schooling and learn to be supportive of others beliefs without losing sight of your own beliefs. I know that being a counselor is not a easy thing to do but you have to be able to de-tatch yourself from your views and really listen to what others are going through so you can help them in their times of need. If you can not do this because you feel your letting your beliefs down then a good counselor you may not be.
