Eating In Class

What do you think about the 'fight against hunger' by allowing students to eat in class?

international QUOTE
PUEBLO, Colo. - At 8:28 a.m., the cafeteria ladies of Centennial High School take up positions in the second-floor hallway, just outside closed classroom doors. Each woman is pushing a cart loaded with milk, juice, whole-wheat doughnuts and individual packages of Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms cereal. Ref. Source 3

Class Eating

You know, this has to be analyzed very carefully depending on the demographics of the area, etc. As a teacher, I know for a fact that many of my students do not eat breakfast or lunch because they are not able to afford it. I know many of them do not come to school early to receive their lunch for a number of reasons that are related to problems at home.

In my view as a teacher, as long as the kids are fed AND allows them to stay in school (it is unlikely they will leave school after eating breakfast) then I am okay with it.

I think that if you make sure all students are able to eat a good breakfast and nice lunch while they attend school they will be more productive and more likely to be able to focus on their studies. With the education they then receive they will be more able to use this education as a tool to better themselves and get out of the dead end that many are probably looking at every day they look in a mirror.

Class Eating

Studies have proven that a good breakfast is a must for children to be able to concentrate. So I believe that every child deserves to have food in their stomachs and if that is at school, then so be it. We can assure these children who are less fortunate can at least get fed and therefore be given the same opportunity of learning (concentrating) as a better off child.
