No, it doesn't solve the problem, but - with the limited tools they have - they really don't know how to solve the problem. |
i agree with what you all are saying being bi i feel that this school could be helpful (especially hey did you say new york come on people think) especially if they live in a dangerous area. but i'm a woman and i think it's more acceptable being a fem bi person then a dyke or gay guy. i do believe that they should educate, but if they're parents are like that and if they are stubborn then the education might just be wasted. and if they live in an area where it's dangerous to just come out and your school is trying to educate the offenders, but it's a long process we know and you are still getting cut up, raped, and beat up/down then is it really helping you.
i used to live on the south side of chi town (chicago). and i have seen females faces cut up, cuz they looked at another woman's man. i have seen people gunned down in my playground, for i don't know the real reason. i have seen people being mugged and raped and i had to turn my back and keep walking til i got to a safe area where i could help. now let me tell you this if i had told them i was gay and i was a guy do you seriously think a class room is gonna help. i can tell you that answer now ---no. they will scuf at the idea and say what they have to to get the teacher to let them leave then they will beat me up for putting them through that. i don't know if the school is a good idea, but i do know it's not really segreating... it's kinda if you want to go to that school then you can. segragating is you have to go to that school. you can't attend the other school. this is if you want to go then you can. i'm sure if you were straight then you could go, sure you would have to defend your sexuality, but hell it's closer to where you live and you get an extra hour of sleep.
and by the way that thing about the teachers is total bs. do you seriously think they need gay teachers to teach gay student? that's saying a retarded teacher can only teach retarded students. if so then you need to be educated also. teacher love to teach. and not all teachers mind teaching a class to let's say gay people or special students. i want to become a teacher and i can't teach a group of special students ( my past is horrible). it depends on the the teacher and teachers are in high demand and there are a lot of teachers so trust me about i'll say 50% of teachers in schools today (maybe not that much) are gay, bi, or bi curious or don't call themselves those words but would do it with the same sex. but that's a differ topic.
please respond.

i do believe it could be a good and a bad idea. if you were to go to a school especially for gays then some one that is predjudice to the point of stupidity could easily follow one or a few of these students home and mug/taught/assault them.
i would have to say: what you learn as a child or adolecent is crucial to how you live your life as an adult. going to a school that encourages something that has been labled taboo by America's standards is like hiding in yourself in something you may find safe. by going to that school and not a public one without that preferance, you can't ready yourself for what others may think of you later in life when you don't have protection in numberes, if you will.
I can't see that in the long term this can be of benefit to the students attending this school!
Maybe in the short term, they are mixing with like minded people, but years down the line when they are handing over their CV of which school attended, I'm sure they are leaving themselves open to prejudices and being left out from job offers!
There are other worrying factors to attending a school like this, and I would imagine that bullying, both from within the school, and from out of the school would be quite high!
Most schools have a high number of gays within them, but handled correctly, there shouldn't be a problem. My Son has both heterosexual and gay friends, and the school that he attended, everybody accepted gay students to have the same rights.
