A drunk off duty soldier apparently slams into a boat hurting a mother and child. The child lost her left arm, the mother is in and out of a coma. Again thanks to vice in Trinidad another person suffers,

My gosh! Poor people! According to this family there were MORE than one person in the other boat and they were all apparently intoxicated. *shaking head* I hope they can recover soon, my heart and prayers go to this family at this time of need.

An update on this: Paige Welch, the 13 year old whose arm was severed had it reattached, but she is being flown to the US for specialized treatment. So far nothing new on the drunk(s) involved.

We need to get the news from a different source, probably from the US when she goes back. Local journalists are not pressing investigators. They just get what they can on the surface.

Comments: I am the father to Paige [Unverified]. She is in the U.S. Being treated at a world known hospital. I promise that I will comment once things are calmer. As I stated to the Newsday paper, I would not comment to anyone until my wife has left Trinidad.

According to the Trinidad Express, Page's arm could NOT be reattached and I am guessing that's the reason she is now in the US. Her father was supposed to speak to the Media but it seems that after finding out that doctors could not reattach the child's arm, he decided not to talk to the media.

On Sunday, a pirogue operated by a Trinidad and Tobago regiment private collided with a kayak in Scotland Bay. The incident left American citizens Racquel Welch, 40; her daughter, Paige Welch, 13; and her nephew, Lance Aqui, 23, hospitalised up to yesterday afternoon. The Express understands he hopes to fly his family back to the US for further medical treatment. Lance Aqui also remained under the watchful eyes of doctors as they monitored a deep slash he received near to his heel. "Yesterday, he was complaining of fever, and when there is fever, there is the possibility that there may be an infection," said Donald Aqui, who lives on Monos Island. Aqui told the Express he visited Scotland Bay, the scene of the accident yesterday. He was guided by the Coast Guard along the route the pirogue may have taken during the incident. Aqui, who also owns a pirogue, questioned the awareness and responsibility of the operator of the boat, particularly after his son stated there was a second man on the bow of the pirogue. "There is no way he could not have seen the kayak due to the calmness of the water in that bay; a styrofoam cup would stand out from 200 feet away," said Aqui, who added that small boats like kayaks are generally given similar preferences on the sea that cyclists get on roadways.... |

I was hearing this theory that maybe the locals didn't want them in that area for some reason. Maybe there was something stashed there or whatever? Unless they were high on something more than just rum. I have seen people with alcohol in their system but they couldn't be that incoherent, especially since there were two of them.

Comments: I am surprised that not more has been heard about this case. This is a tragic accident that did not need to happen. How come there is no name of the person who hit these people? Is he connected somehow to the government? This person I heard was drunk and sped off after hitting these people - why haven't any charges been set against him. He has altered this little girls life forever! Why is there not more of an outcry?
