Lopinot - Farmers Vs. Residents?

I did not catch all but what was all that cutlass fighting they showed on TV6? I am actually surprised they showed graphic scenes of men attacking one another. What depth of primitiveness is this country reaching where everything is resolved as though we live in the Congo?

Residents Vs Farmers Lopinot

JB, I saw the report yesterday. It was a gang of people with cutlasses who attacked the villagers over a dispute of the land. They came out of the blue and beat up the people of the area and members of the media were also attacked and threatened if they film anything, they swung the cutlasses to them too. Al this happened at 3:00pm!

international QUOTE
A GANG of cutlass-wielding thugs yesterday went on a rampage, attacking a group of villagers in the quiet and rural community of upper La Pastora Village, Lopinot Arouca, causing residents to run for their lives.

The drama unfolded shortly before 3 p.m. Outside a three-storey house at San Jose Estate, which comprises of 600 acres of agricultural land.

Several villagers were beaten with cutlasses and kicked about their bodies by a gang of six men as a dispute over the use and ownership of the estate turned violent.

Members of media were attacked and threatened with violence by the men who pushed aside and struck a camera with their cutlasses.

Media personnel were ordered to switch off all cameras. They were told their equipment would be destroyed if the refused.

The men swung cutlasses in the direction of members of the media, threatening to use violence. Members of the media were spared after a cameraman from the State-owned Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) recognised one of the men who is a villager from his community.

Moments after, the men "plannassed" several villagers who were engaged in a heated argument with Deosaran Francis, a fellow villager, who claimed to have title to the land in the area.

Without asking questions, the thugs rained blows on the villagers ,accusing them of causing mischief and assaulting one of their relatives.

"Who it is beat my father, boy? All yuh dead up here today. Ah go take off your head clean, whoever it is hit my father," said one of the men as he indiscriminately "plannassed" the villagers.

As they quickly made their escape from the hands of the cutlass-wielding men, the residents ran, leaving their slippers behind, and headed down the muddy roadway more than two miles from the estate.

The men that were wildly using their cutlasses were arrested and appeared before a judge today. They were granted bail in the sum of TT$35,000 each. They all pleaded not guilty, but I did not catch the exact crime they were charged with that they pleaded not guilty too.

Residents Vs Farmers Lopinot

A man who claims to be the owner of the lands in dispute says that the reason they did not want farmers there is based on the illegal growing of marijuana as well as stealing wood from structures. He is willing for farmers to grow legitimate produce so long as it is done in the proper way.
