Do you all remember back in the 90's the case of two housewives (Candace Scott and Karen Gomes) who were brutally raped in front of their children and killed in Westmoorings? One of the perpetrators was 16 years old Chuck Attin, the other was 28 years old Noel Seepersad. The maid who was also in the house was sexually tortured for 3 hours by these two men. Seepersad was convicted to death but, in accordance with the Privy Council's 1993 Pratt and Morgan ruling, Seepersad's death sentence was commuted to life in prison.
Since last year they are seeking the release of Chuck Attin pending on the results of psychiatric and psychometric tests. He is serving a sentence of 25 years. Apparently, the reports show he is remorseful and wants to make a positive contribution to society.
What are your thoughts about the possibility of this convicted killer being released?
I remember this case very well because it happened in my neighborhood. It is probably one of the most heinous crimes ever reported in Trinidad and Tobago and my heart sank everytime I hear about the relatives of the victims because times doesn't really heal when you lose someone in these type of circumstances.
I am absolutely against having Chuck Attin released after the horrible murders he committed. Whether he was 16 or not, I don't care.
The guy was just 16 years old and he spent already 25 years in prison, doesn't he deserve at least one more opportunity? I'm not defending him I'm just asking if the hate people feel for this guy will change anything of what happened.
Comments: His age only makes his crime worse. For a 16 year old to have it in him to be that cruel and merciless to innocent women, especially two mothers after seeing their very young, confused and frightened children shows how sick and repulsive this man is. And for your information "Roshni", he has not served his full 25 years yet (In case your math is off this crime happened in 1994). He deserves no mercy and it would be 100% wrong to let him freely roam the streets of Trinidad again after what he has done to the families of those women and taking innocent lives in the most barbaric of ways.
Comments: For [you] the one that believes that this piece of [..] should be let loose. You don't know what pain is unless is inflicted to you by that same animal. So I don't wish the same upon you but I hope you will come to your senses. He should die in the prison.
I didn't mean to offend anyone, I apologise if I did. I was trying to state that since they were considering his release I was wondering if he's ready or not to be out that's all. I know what he did was very wrong and I feel bad for the families involved.
