Do You Have A Spending Problem?

Here is an interesting little quiz from MSN, only 20 questions.

Spending Savvy
What kind of spender are you? Here is a spending quiz we designed to get you to think about how you spend money and, perhaps, to bring you closer to the ideal. Choose the answers that best fit the way you manage money.

O.K. I got a 75 out of a possible 100. I don't agree with one of their answers so, I think I did pretty well. I have taken this test in the past and not done nearly as well, but in the past year I have really changed my spending habits. These test results show that change.

Great score, tena smile.gif I had the same problem with some of the choices being kind of weird, and there really wasn't one that depicted my true feelings on that particular question. I scored a 68...

Problem Spending Have Do

Most of that quiz doesn't pertain to me. I have not had credit cards for nearly 20 years, not since my ex ruined his credit with them. I am unemployed now, but when I was working I was a cashier in a grocery store, so there was no 401K, or investments.

I feel that in the last 3 years I have improved in my spending habits. I try to make my meals from scratch rather than buy frozen prepared, or boxed dinners. I buy roasts on sale and if they are cheaper by the pound than hamburger then grind them into hamburger, or sausage if it is pork.

I bake my own bread. Not frozen bread, but from scratch. It is so cheap to make. Yes it takes time, so on your day off you start the bread before you start the laundry. And you have to stick close to home in case it rises faster than usual.

I no longer buy soda pop, or buy juice in the quart or half gallons. I buy frozen concentrate ~ it is cheaper and tastes the same. I drink a lot of Kool Ade. I only add 3/4 C. sugar though or less. Don't need it to be as sweet as when I was a kid.

I don't buy anything else like furniture, clothes, books, etc. unless it is a real need. I will wait a week or two or even three before I buy. Just to insure it is a need and not just a want.

I am not very adept at sewing clothes. I can mend them just fine on the sewing machine, but they look rather scruffy when I sew 'new'. Like I said in another post, I sure wish I had paid attention to Dad and Grandma when they were teaching how to darn. I sure could use that skill now.

So to reply with this posts question: No I don't have a spending problem. I get all of my bills paid on or before they are due ~ after I pay my tithe. I make sure my gas tank is never gets lower than half, and I don't waste my money on things that I really don't need. I even pass up the $1.00 books at the library, because right now I need all those dollars to buy cat food, toiletries, soap, etc.

You are on top of it, Agene smile.gif That's the way we are supposed to live -- debt free, and well within our means. You remind me of the lady who started the Tightwad Gazette biggrin.gif

Do You Have A Spending Problem?

This is one quiz I would fail and come out on top simply because of all the problems I have in life this is possibly the least to null among them. In fact everywhere I go I am constantly budgeting. I hate to be in debt with a passion and owing money to anyone makes me cringe so I am always a step ahead, but in order to be so you just can't have a spending problem. I must admit though that there is a certain passion in being able to buy something you want, but if you really cannot afford it then this is where the thinking cap needs to come out.
