Comments: Are ghosts evil? From the moment I could understand story time I remember the stories of ghosts always gave me the chills. They were always portrayed as scary and I just wanted to know if ghosts are just there to scare us and be evil.

Evil Ghosts Are

Have you heard the story of how a little girl recalls her Grandma tucking her into bed every night? Spirits or Ghosts are by no means evil. Some may be tricksters and practical jokers. Most are trapped between dimensions, unable to move on because of some trauma and their soul is only looking for rest. Some are happy, they have a message for the living, some are caring, others long for a place or a person. There are those evil spirits though, energy vampires and those who feed off negative emotions. We attract what we give, so a person with only good intentions who is free of fear will only draw beautiful spirits towards them, even the Angelic kind.

I don't feel ghosts are evil, they might be just living out what they knew in their past lives. Hollywood loves to focus on the tormented ghosts, I guess it would be boring to have a movie about a ghost doing good things.

Evil Ghosts Are

When I was first introduced to the school library at a very young age, one of the very first books, I think it was THE first, I picked out, was "Gus and the Baby Ghost", a 32 page (16 pages front and back) pre-school book, that I think got me interested in ghosts and the paranormal from then on. Looking back on it, even then I thought it was strange, because as I learned what a "ghost" was, I realized there was a baby ghost, which meant it was a dead baby, and someone abandoned it on the doorstep of the museum, and Gus decided to take care of it.. And why did they look like that if they were people at one time... I think I put too much thought into things even when I was very young.

But my point is, IF "ghosts" exist, as spirits of the dead, there is no reason they would be "evil" or mean or bad, or inherently so, because people are people. "Ghost stories" are a widely varying collection of tales from all cultures, that dip into fiction and fact, and outright lies and embellishment, and a LOT of wishful thinking, fear, and misunderstanding and misperception by otherwise sane, reasonable, well-meaning people.

Ghosts are scary because they are something outside the realm of what 'should be', of what we know to be normal and 'real' and logical - they have a lot of connotations of being able to do things that frighten us because we don't understand how some of the things are possible, like appearing and disappearing, moving things without touching them, phasing through walls, ... Moving around and looking like someone who should be many years dead. THAT is why they're scary. That doesn't make them evil, it makes us human.
