The character of 'Rambo' promoted the ability of one man to overcome all odds, to use what he had on him as well as around him to the best advantage of survival, but are such people in existence? Is such training really available?

Certain military training provides this to some extent. I never received such training, but the Air Force for example has a survival training course for pilots and also one for those who will be called upon to rescue downed pilots, that focusses heavily on survival.

The answer is yes,in a sense of the word. Noone can do what Hollywood 'deems' possible. However, back in vietnam (when this type of warrior was implanted) we had soldiers ine the Army and the Corps. that were called 'LURPS' that stands for long range patrols ,these one man armies would ride up river under cover of darkness and sneak into enemy encampments most often out numbered 20 to 1.
And most often they would take out entire platoons of men agaist all odds.
This was of course 30 years ago,so I'm sure our training in that field has progessed remarkably,so who really knows what one man can do.

You need to keep in mind that these men were natural born killers who enjoy the art of the kill so much they will take trophies of their victums(ears,noses,etc.....)and so forth.
America would never admit to these type of killers in their ranks, most of them were taken out of jail and given freedom if they could complete so many missions.

My father in law was a PT boat gunner in nam,and his job was to 'escort' these men (with their ears and noses tied around their necks) up river in the night, drop them off, then come back in a week to pick them up(some even had human heads with them) sad.gif .

My goodness. Is that legal? I mean letting a man out of prison if he killed the enemy? Also, why would the military allow such men to take home a head or ears, etc. Wouldn't such men, that like to kill so much, be a threat to their own platoon?

I haven't heard the stories posted here about taking home body parts, but it is a well known fact that in Viet Nam, many were killed by their own platoon members. If your Leutenant was thought to be a danger to you because he didn't know what he was doing, he could easiy end up dead. Often referred to as being "fragged."

Viet Nam was a brutal war, fought in an unconventional manner in which even children might be a deadly enemy to you. So, people exposed to this type of existance, often themselves became brutally inhumane.

Since when does legal matter in war? We have something called the geneva convention that we as U.S. military are suppost to follow. And we do when it comes to standard reports. But if you think that we dont break the rules, you would be wrong.Sadly wrong I'm afraid.

These men that were taken from prison were not assigned to a platoon they were on their own(most of them 'disappeared' when the war was over.)
We cleaned our jails out,let them do what they do best ,kill.War is not pretty, nor fun,for most of us,but for some it is a way of life. Of course we deny all knowledge of such subjects. Many cases of men who were on their way to jail and given the choice of prison or war(what would you choose?)

In regards to the body parts: I'm not trying to make anyone sick, just the plain truth. Most men that were into this sort of thing most often ended up listed as M.I.A.
And forgotten about. We have alot of 'secrets' here in the U.S. this is one of them.
I do'nt think they took the parts home,it was part of their charactor, intimidation.

In regards to killers that disappeared, it was very easy back then to bounce your way around the world and take back doors into the U.S.(I have family that actually did this.) Not to take away from P.O.W.'s but alot of people that came up missing, and presumed dead, were actually in hiding, and had no desire to return to the U.S.(Again a family member almost fell into this category).

In NAM there was also instances were the NVA would actually buy american soldiers out of the war,I.E. give them some money to disappear. How was this done you might ask? I'll tell you, when we took R&R in NAM,it took place in the same city as the enemy(strange huh?) Anyway this is when the Vietnamese would associate with americans and offer a way out of the war,the standard bribe looked something like this $15,000 and a plane ticket anywhere in the world, except the U.S. of course,it happened alot.I know it does'nt sound like alot of money and giving up your citzenship would seem crazy,However if you were sent into a jungle and told to kill (which goes against most of our values as humans) alot of things go through your mind. The #1 thing would be "how do I get out of here". I'm sure not too many took the offer but some did.

I'm not trying to turn this into a conspiracy thread just laying out some facts that have been brought to my attention.

To sort of stay on topic: I believe we have people in our military now that are capable of extraordinary things, above and beyond normal convictions, and the U.S. is not even going to acknowledge this(like you did'nt know that).

When I was in the Corps. I had to take a close quarter combat course(something the U.S.M.C denied even having) so how could I be allowed to take a course in something that does'nt even exist,The answer is SECRECY,we will always withold info to keep the enemy guessing.

So we are saying that the concept of 'Rambo' is a reality. However I would like to think that the 'First Blood' character fit more of the above rather than the Rambo films that followed since started to be a bit much. The next thing...

Doesn't the US offer courses from former SEALS, etc for tatics, weapons use, etc? Have you been to any of them? Are they the same as the military?

The SEALS are for hollywood first of all, they do exist, however we have much more equipped special forces than them.
To answer the new question of courses: Yes I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find it,However any tactics YOU are likely to come across are outdated, and no longer useful to the military.Thats how we keep an edge.

I was asked to try out for Marine Force RECON,which by comparison has the same function as the SEALs(minus the terrorist training, and dealings with the C.I.A).I turned it down, because I did'nt think I could perform some of the things required. They hold tryouts for this all the time, the success/pass rate is somewhere around 10%. Just for preliminaries, the drop out rate for each phase of training is 90%,so after all phases of training are completed there is something like a 1% pass factor here. The best of the best of the best.

Example:Day 1 Don full battle gear with rifle and start on a 15 mile run, when that is completed, you must swim(with gear) for a time(not sure how long),when this is over it is night, then it really gets going, they throw all they can at you,for 3 straight days NO SLEEP. that is all just so they can select who they feel will make it to actual training, needless to say the full battle gear run was too much for me.Not to mention the rest of qualifing.
