ADOBE SYSTEMS PROPOSES NEW UNIVERSAL FORMAT FOR DIGITAL PHOTOS

Adobe Systems Inc. plans to introduce a new format for digital photos today in an attempt to create an industry public standard to make the archiving and editing process compatible across all types of cameras and photo software.

I particularly liked the comment made by an Adobe official:

"Our customers have been struggling over the past few years. They see the flexibility of raw files but don't want the pain of having to deal with different formats," said Bryan Lamkin, an Adobe senior vice president.


He makes it seem like they are so concerned about the customer, when really, they want this to take off so they can reap the benefits. Anyway, rant off. Having a standard format for pictures would be a good idea, but doesnt necessarily mean that it will be accepted by all. Case in point, there has been a push for an industry standard in recordable CD formats, and one still has not been accepted as THE format to use. This will either take of running or fall flat on its face.
