The price of a barrel of oil has dropped to under $123 a barrel. Maybe the cost of gas will start to ease?
It seemed like last time we had these wild swings in oil prices that the gas prices would fluctuate with it at the pump. This time, gas just keeps going up and up and up. It's currently $4.339/gal here.
Meanwhile, we recently witnessed a local gas station (Mobil) razed to the ground in one day, and another station (Am/Pm) is up for sale. The last thing I would want to be right now is a gas station owner.

Last week I was able to to fill up for $3.88 with a 10cent discount. Today the price was $4.11 before the discount. That is in Anchorage, out here in "the valley" about 40 miles north it was $4.39 on the pumps for regular. It is costing us $100 to fill the tank these days and we're spending roughly $1000 a month to commute. You've got to wonder some days if it's worth it.

Earlier in the thread we were talking about "fuel thieves" and so forth. I was picturing people getting maybe 50 or 75 gallons from homes or 1/2 tank from a car. This boggled my mind and we have to figure it isn't only happening here!

BAKERSFIELD, California (CNN) -- Standing in a field of organic tomatoes, farmer Pete Belluomini says the ground-cracking drought and unrelenting insects make it difficult enough to make a living on the land. Farmer Steve Belluomini says thieves recently stole more than 900 gallons of diesel, costing him $4,000. But they are the least of his concern these days as a new menace haunts farmers in Bakersfield, California: diesel thieves. Sgt. Walt Reed of the Kern County Sheriff's Department and a member of California's Rural Crimes Task Force said that more than $300,000 worth of diesel fuel was stolen in Kern County in the past three months. "It's an epidemic, gigantic problem," Reed said. "In Kern County alone, we're getting reports of five to seven diesel thefts from farms a week. It's happening in other parts of the San Joaquin Valley, too." The crooks work around the clock, searching during the daytime for irrigation pumps run by diesel engines and supply tanks filled with diesel or gasoline, police and farmers say. They return at night, with their headlights off, to steal hundreds of gallons of fuel at a time |
