From CNN:

PLANT CITY, Florida (AP) -- A Plant City High School teacher did not violate district policies or procedures last month when she used a shovel to euthanize two dying baby rabbits, school district investigators said.

The preliminary findings after Jane Bender, an agricultural science teacher, met with the district's Office of Professional Standards. Bender faced possible disciplinary action for dismembering the sickly newborn rabbits with a shovel in front of her students.....

Rabbits Killing Policy Violate Didnt Teacher

QUOTE
"It appears to be an issue of student perception," said Mark Hart, spokesman for the Hillsborough County school district. "One or more perceived that to be a cruel or inhumane act, but in point of fact, that's part of farming."

It's part of farming, part of animal husbandry. Was it better to leave the bunnies to die being eaten alive by ants or drowning?? It just seems like a "city kids" issue. I can't believe they will charge her with animal cruelty!!! She just put them out of their misery. It's absurd.

In my opinion, of course.

Another incident of killing a live animal in front of students. This time it was a dog that was going to be euthanized anyway.

Class Dissection Of Live Dog Outrages Parents, Students

QUOTE
A biology class lesson in Gunnison, Utah involving the dissection of a live dog has outraged some parents and students, according to a report.

Biology teacher Doug Bjerregaard, who is a substitute teacher at Gunnison Valley High School, wanted his students to see how the digestive system of a dog worked.

Why the teacher chose a dog, which is a very common pet to have, is beyond me. Even if they were high-school students, I think it was unnecessary to dissect a living animal, especially a dog. What are your thoughts on the incident?
