i'm just really curious as to what makes a good website to you guys?
I think my own personal webdesign style has matured a lot over the past 3/4 years. i'm into simplicity now
what appeals to me:
something fresh. it's hard to be completely original, but when someone takes a concept and puts their own twist on it, that intrigues me.
i also like when people write as though they're writing to an audience but still personalize it somewhat. it's hard to do, i can't do it very well, but some people can.
A website should keep the users attention.. be "interactive" for the user, otherwise it will be a one time there and never go back kinda thing
I agree Xtra that simple is best. Too much flashy fancy stuff just slows the site down and is distracting anyway. Also, not too many pop up ads.
I want to be able to easily find what it is I am searching for on the site. Most of my browsing is with a specific purpose. So, if I come to your site, I am looking for something. Help me to find it.
I completely agree that simple is the best way to go. Not too many moving objects of flashing backgrounds or borders. Infact flashing or animated backgrounds are probably the worst thing a site can have.
A site needs a clean look with easy navigation and interesting content. And anything origional is a major plus. .

I agree with that 100%. I find flashy objects and backgrounds too distracting and more often then not, I'll leave the site annoyed and never come back. One or two items that flash are ok, but not the whole site. Keep it simple!
Content, orginality, and simplicity are the key ingredients to a good site.

To me a website must have 4 things to be good.
1. It must be at least semi fast on a dial-up connection. If this means not so many flashy cool things then so be it.
2. It must not have annoying pop-ups. Well now that doesent realy matter because I have Fire Fox, but it still should not have those.
3. It must be organized.
4. All of its hyper links should work. I hate it when I find a good link on some website, and then it doesent even work.
There are probably more but I can't realy think of them right now...
Something easy on the eyes. I hate when you go to a site and either the background and the text are so close to the same color that you can't read anything or the color scheme is so way off that the page is too bright and hurts your eyes. I think color schemes are very important. I've spent hours tweaking fine details of web sets because the colors weren't working right for me. (maybe I'm a little too picky) Also I like when a site has some kind of unique flair--nothing that would slow down badly on dial-up. Maybe some kind of mouseover or fancy banner, something small involving an effort of creativity just to add that extra bit of flair to the site.
