Ah paintball, the most fun I've had in a long time. I get together with some friends and we play as a hobby, but there are people out there who have uniforms, teams, and win money. So if Olympic curling can be a sport, (See topic Sports I Just Can't Understand) then paintball can be a sport as well.
Offtopic but, I prefer paintball over airsoft because airsoft weapons have less velocity, thus when I am playing in the woods the underbruch blocks the pellets. while paintballs go right through. |

Paintball is mostly a fun activity, I would not consider it a sport. There is very little skill involved, and mostly luck. |

Paintball can be eiether a sport or a hobby. For example, I play a style called speedball. In order to even be competitive in this style of play requires hours of practice. The team I play on practices once or twice a week for 3 to 6 hours each time. Every detail is practiced from the way you hold the marker (or gun), how you shoot it, how you move up the field, how you lane or make it so your opponent can not move, how to communicate among team members so you can work together, how you position yourself in each type of bunker, etc. Tournament paintball is not just playing in the woods eiether. It is a playing field designed to give each team equality while playing. It is not just some patch of woods. There are specific rules that must be followed and penalities for breaking the rules.
Saying paintball is just going out and shooting at people hoping you get lucky is like saying your going to swing a baseball bat and hope you get lucky. Or even throwing a basketball in the air and if your lucky you will get it to go into the basket. Watch for paintball events on espn2. After seeing it you would agree that paintball is more than a hoppy.
