Question: What the world's oldest profession?
Answer: Prostitution?
Response: No begging, someone had to ask for it!
This has been around since biblical times and people are still debating the morality of and economic decisions made by two consenting adults.
Red light districts regulate the trade and try to lessen the elements of criminality and public health issues; AIDS, Hep- c,and std's.
Make what you want of this, but I"ve been working since the age 12 and still couldn't afford to golf at Sugarloaf (private course) much less own a house on the 9th hole.
Amsterdam is not only for prostitution, their government just accepted a bronze monument to "the worlds oldest profession".

Now the tricky part. Where on earth do you erect such a fine tribute? I am just waiting for the next iteration of this theme: the bronze "john" statue!

I was a libertarian until a few years back. I once would have argued in favor of legalized prostitution, on the basis of an individual's right to do with their body as they will. However, since we are part of a society, the individual forfeits certain rights/freedoms in order to have order and a more civilized social union.
Society has long required license for various things, thus removing an unfettered right to do as we will among consenting adults, including licenses for medical professionals, lawyers, engineers, CPAs, contractors, notary publics, etc.
So if the argument is that it's an unreasonable license of affairs, that's absurd (unless we are willing to remove all these other licenses).
And certainly prostitution brings with it many harmful effects on society, including the lower of one's self-worth, accidental births, and a greater likelihood of the carrying of disease. Sure, we can try to prevent these things by requiring precautions to be made. But it still does not solve the moral issues.

Of course it should be legal. It will never cease to exist. |

Some people don't have another option, so why make it illegal? Some people need it. |

Seen the want ads? We have record low unemployment in some parts of the United States. |

I am not questioning that it is viable. I am questioning that it is the ONLY option.
That is quite a claim. I lived in Brazil, and saw a lot of people figure out ways to make money other than by engaging in prostitution. So I find that claim hard to believe.
In making an argument, when one uses "absolutes" to make their point, rarely will those absolutes be found to be true. For example, a person who claims to "never" speed, or who "always" brushes his teeth after a meal.
