Heatwaves can make trees pollute. Trees are supposed to be one of nature's greatest defences against pollution, but new data suggests they can sometimes have the opposite effect.
Conventional wisdom holds that plants will purify the air, helping to reduce concentrations of harmful gases.
But experts at York University now say this effect can reverse itself in the UK during extremely hot conditions.

Well I guess everything has its limit so I can see why that would be so, but it is interesting to note how plants use carbon dioxide during the day and oxygen at night. I heard that you should not have plants in your bedroom for that reason (maybe an old hag's tale?)
This begs the question, does pollution beget pollution? If we pollute the air enough, causing what some say are unnatural green house gases, the temperature rises. The higher temperature causes the trees to pollute, which causes greater ozone depletion, which causes higher temperatures. In the end the trees hurt us? I always thought my uncle was crazy when he said the trees are conspiring against us!
