Which part of a book do you tend to enjoy the most?

The Beginning, Middle Or End? - Page 3

I enjoy huge epics, as much as I enjoy a short story. I tend to choose a book on impulse, or recommendation. As for liking the beginning, middle or end of a book, I prefer to take stock of the whole thing once I have read it. If its not particularly fast paced, or the character development is a little slow, I still like to give it a chance before I condemn it to the bookshelf.

To mention the point made in the post above, it is such a sad loss at the end of a good book, or series. Also I get a little frustrated waiting for the next book in the series to come along.

End Middle Beginning The

I will have to say the middle, awkward or boring beginnings can certainly be a reason to not reading a book through the first pages.. but in the end it is the journey that matters to me most.. even so I have quite often be disappointed by the end of a book, even if the journey was great.

I would have to say the beginning is the most important part of a book. Thats when I am judging the writers skill and eloquence. For example, I think Michael Crichton is a terrible author, he wrote Jurassic Park and made many millions of dollars off of it, had 2 movies made, and so many merchandising schemes that he can retire and live in opulence the rest of his life. I think Robert Heinlein is a fantastic writer, although few people can understand his writings because they are so full of political allegory and sub-plots and overt plots and this and that. So the point I'm trying to make is if the beginning is good, the book will be good, then the author will be good.

I enjoy all sections of a book equally if the book is well written. I laugh at the comment that a book has got to be 2 knuckles thick, what a great way to judge the number of pages. I agree with most posts here and prefer a long book over a short one, but I get enjoyment out of a well written short story too.
Most of the books that I read will be part of a trilogy and therefore I extrapolate the question to first, second or third. And say that I still enjoy all sections equally. I also agree with another comment that I hate the ending if the story has been engrossing, simply because the enjoyment has also ended.
Oddly enough I hate starting a book, and NOT finishing it, regardless of how good it is. This does mean I waste a lot of time reading trash, but I also persevere and find some great stories buried after poor starts....

End Middle Beginning The

I enjoy the middle section of the book the most simply because the beginning tends to be a scene setting instrument for a writer and the end is often used for summaries and to round things up. I enjoy the middle section because of the it tends to have the most character development in and I always enjoy getting to grips with the people your reading about.

The Beginning, Middle Or End?

my favorite part of a book is not really the beginning or the middle, but that part in between around page 45-80 that just hooks you. You know it has you when you get ready to put it down and you decide to read another chapter or so. Then you see the book sitting on the end table, and you decide "I don't have to go to bed right now!" and you stay up reading for four hours. Its that part in the book where you find out where the protagonist is from, or maybe why the main characters have arrived in the situation they mysteriously found themselves in, and it so entrances you that you have no other wish than to stay in that world for as long as you can without falling asleep and dreaming about what might happen next. That for me is something you can't get from Television or movies, and I think it is sad that people have gotten away from reading as much as they have.

The Beginning Middle End - Page 3

I like the beginning because that tells me if the rest of the book is worth reading. Its also a build up of the characters so you feel like you're meeting someone for the first time.

The middle tends to have all the best parts of the book so I like it there. By the time the end is coming I'm already engrossed in the story and not looking forward to finishing the book too fast.
