If the books has a meaningless begginning then I just quit, like this one book I read, firts 7 Pages made noooo sense, so I put it in my bookcase, and never read it. If you like the End, then thats fine, endings are good. But the time the book gets your attention is the middle, without a beggining the middles useless, but the middles the best...

For me, it has to be the end. Even if the beginning is slow, I make an effort to stick with it hoping that the end is worth the pain. Or if the beginning is great, I would hope the end is just as great if not better. If the end is disappointing, then I feel let down. Yes, the end of a book is the most important to me. |

I can usually tell fairly quickly if a book is going to be good or not. I like beginnings because my imagination can run away with me before the characters become what the author wanted them to be. Middles are great as well. As a writer, I appreciate the development of characters, plot, relationships, etc. I especially like reading the middle books in a series. I like endings least because they are so often unsatisfying. More often than not, I feel like Romeo, asking, "O! Wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?" More than once, I have thought, "Please, Sir -- May I have some more?" According to Magaret Atwood, the only authentic ending is that everyone dies. I'll buy that.
I tend not to mind if the beginning of a book is a bit slow as sometimes the scene setting is very important but not so attention-grabbing. I always find that the end of a book is the best bit. The most action tends to happen here and everything comes together. I especially like the ends of books that have a sequel or are in a series as you can read on and find out what happens next.
