Lowering Us Drug Prices

This thread approaches the subject from the angle of better health and not better business:

RX IMPORTS WORRY HATCH

Many say allowing prescription drugs to be imported from countries such as Canada, where government controls set prices low, would help cut down high U.S. prices.

From a health perspective, the question that would need to be answered is "How much compromise is there in drugs that are being currently used in countries such as Canada?" The US is concerned that the drugs that are not FDA approved may not be as safe as those that are. I will use Canada as the example here. Are they having problems with drugs that are coming from outside countries such as Indonesia? If the answer is no, then there should not need to be that much concern.

I agree with MAlexander on this one. I think, we often consider ourselves in the US so much superior to everyone else in the world! Well, guess what, we really are not. I think if it is good enough for Canada, it is good enough for me. I think I would say this of Great Britain and Australia as well. I think we can pick and choose which countries to trust and which ones aren't as developed and regulated as others.

A.A.R.P. is on top of this. This is from their website: https://www.aarp.org/legislative/prescripti...mportation.html

..."Supporting Importation to Make Drugs More Affordable
That's why AARP is supporting S. 2328, the bipartisan bill sponsored by Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and 22 cosponsors, that would legalize the safe importation of prescription drugs from other countries, beginning with Canada.

The Dorgan-Snowe bill contains several important provisions. The bill

+allows individuals, pharmacies, and wholesalers to import drugs from Canada with a phase-in to some European Union countries

+provides safety protections for consumers

+requires wholesalers and pharmacies to register with the FDA

+seeks to prevent pharmaceutical companies from shutting off supply to those who engage in importation...."
