What Video Game To Cross Over

I had an idea last night to take the theme or plot from a video game and cross it over to Dungeons & Dragons format. You would play as one of the main characters and follow the general plot of that game world.

Just wondering what you think, what video game world you most like and be exited about playing in?

I thought you had enough going on to get into something like this? just to give you a suggestion though why not use that "Dragons" game? I haven't played it but it must be popular because I saw a lot of ads for it in the past.

Now that I think of it this is more just a fun, "what if" question.

Is dragons the title or is there more? I don't think I remember that game. Unless your talking about the one were you are a dragon flying around shooting stuff.

Sorry its not "Dragons", I did a search here and was lucky to find it, Dragon's Age. Do you recognize it?

Yes I have, though I've never played it. It's odd because it is just my type of game. For one reason or another I haven't bought it. I think I'll have to look it up on youtube and see the game-play.

I was thinking the game "The Secret of Mana" would be a fun plot.

What Video Game To Cross Over

Any video game or just ones that are magical / medieval related. For instance you could have the game like Age of Empires where the players have to find a civilization, make friends with the natives and with their help conquer something.

That would be interesting if done well. I don't know how I would brake that down. Like have all your character statistics be kingdom related?

I've never played 'real' Dungeon and Dragon games, but I think they are fascinating.

About 10 years ago, when I thought I was too old to be playing games lol my son talked me into watching him play Legend of Dragoon on PS one. It became an activity we really enjoyed together, playing RPG games, finding and collecting them.

I now have the entire Final Fantasy series, Arc the Lad series, Star Ocean, and too many to name. All PS one and in mint condition, most with the strategy guide. I have played Secret of Mana more times than I can count. My 12 year old grandson loves it. Now he is in the Nintendo Series games and has a couple of the Mana games, plus Final Fantasy ones. I really liked Dragon Warrior and Quest, too.

Between my son, my grandson and myself - it has become a family activity we all enjoy. (I level the characters up between visits to expedite the plot)

I find I enjoy the ones set more in a medieval type setting with lots of magic rather than the high-tech ones (like Final Fantasy VIII) set in futuristic settings.

My son has moved on to DisGaeia (?) and PS2-3. He doesn't stick to strictly RPG as I do. But we're the opposite of you, we have ideas for video games - we like a lot of different activities in the games, secrets, so forth. I like where you have to collect things, like the mini coins and trade in for items. I loved creating a village of people in Dragon Warrior VIII (I think). I loved getting seeds and growing the food in Legend of Mana; then all the different things you could do with it, the armor/weapon shop tempering was mind-boggling in its scope/range. In Final Fantasy VIII, I loved being able to drain magic out of opponents and raise my own stats with it. Grandia had some pretty cool aspects as well. I get bored if there isn't enough magic and ways to change armor, stats, abilities, items to look for, etc. Final Fantasy Tactics had nice idea of sending spare characters off on jobs to earn points and money. I liked that and the terrain skills were different. The personalities, dialogue, relationships, and interactions of some characters really cracks me up, and adds so much to the game.

Anyway, my son and I are always discussing games we'd like to create if we knew how to program or any programmers, what we would do differently or like to see in a game. I think it would be great fun to create one. I hope you stick with your idea of creating a game. It's a good idea.

And, in answer to your question, though not directed at me - yes, each character have a kingdom, each kingdom have an element and specific items attached to it.
As they travel and add companions, they could also be collecting ? something that must be reunited to 'save the world'. There could also be a 'job' set-up similar to Arc the Lad. You might complete some jobs in that kingdom but also see the 'wanted' poster in one kingdom for someone found in a later kingdom.
It gets so exciting, a person could go on and on with it.

Rather off topic, but...
I don't tell very many people I play RPG games - I remember the invention of Pong (laugh) ha. I told my son I was too old 10 years ago, but here I am.... He said he knew I'd love the RPG's if I ever gave them a chance. I read a lot of books including a lot of "RPG-type" fantasy books, such as those by Richard Jordan, R.A. Salvatore, Terry Brooks etc. You could get some ideas from them, too.

I was injured on the job a few years ago and am disabled.... So computer activities (I have a small site, like a blog really), video games, books, little bit TV (don't care for most of it) pretty much have to occupy my time. It still gets very boring since I was accustomed to working 50-60 hours/week. I rescued a 2 week old Bobcat and he's about 7 months old now. I've managed to teach him a few tricks, he's very smart - often behaves more like a dog than a cat.

Anyway - keep up with your ideas. It will be a lot of fun for you.
