INDEPENDENCE -- The family of a prominent Virginia tree farmer offered a $50,000 reward yesterday for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for slaying the man, his son and an employee.

An attempted robbery apparently led to the shooting deaths Thursday of Ronald F. Hudler, 74, Frederick D. Hudler, 45, and John S. Miller, 25, Grayson County authorities said.

The three were slain on Ronald Hudler's property in Mouth of Wilson, near the North Carolina line

Frederick Hudler and Miller, both of West Jefferson, N.C., apparently had been working on the tree farm and returned to Ronald Hudler's home, where they were confronted in the garage and killed by people who were attempting to steal a gun safe, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Ronald Hudler was shot when he came outside to investigate, authorities said.

He often kept considerable amounts of money in the safe, the sheriff's office said.

Ronald Hudler employed nearly 50 workers during the Christmas tree harvest season.

Ronald Hudler's company has several farms in North Carolina and Grayson County. Source 2u

Dishonesty is also a crime if you are hurting the pockets of your boss! Shame on her.

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jan. 21) - A gas station clerk is accused of defrauding her boss out of nearly $50,000 by selling fuel to her family and friends for a tenth of a penny a gallon.

Police arrested 25-year-old Madeline Jordan on Sunday - along with her mother, brother, a cousin and two others - after setting up a sting at the BP station in South Charleston.

The station's owner told police last week he had noticed a significant drop in his income and found receipts that listed the deeply discounted rate.

Police alleged that for several months Jordan, of Nitro, had reset the price at the pumps every Sunday morning and allowed people she knew to fill up. Source 8k
