Being Democrat & Being A Believer

In an unusual display of dissent at the party's convention, Democrats struggled to complete a voice vote amending their party platform to include language referring to God and to Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

A senior Democratic source told CNN that President Barack Obama intervened to change the platform language on Jerusalem. Democratic sources said Obama also asked why the word "God" had been dropped.

It took three voice votes before a flummoxed Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the convention chairman, declared himself satisfied that a two-thirds majority backed the language, despite groans of dissatisfaction from some delegates.

Later in the evening, former President Bill Clinton delivers the featured speech and will formally nominate Obama. Ref. CNN

Democrats Add God Back to Platform After Booing Three Times

After massive public backlash, Democrats have put God back in their platform, but it took three votes on the floor of the Democratic convention to do so. Delegates booed and shouted down the idea as Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles is seen clearly confused about how to handle the vote when so many Democrats refused to support the idea.

Following the vote, Debbie Wasserman Schultz tweeted and claimed, "The platform is being amended to maintain consistency with the personal views expressed by the prez"¦"

AP indicates President Barack Obama personally intervened to change the Democrat platform language on including God. But less than 24 hours ago, White House spokesman Ben LaBolt, according to reporter David Freddoso, said, "The platform represents the inclusiveness of the party"¦and represents the president's positions and vision." Ref. Being Democrat & Being A Believer Beliefs Religious General

I personally believe that this sort of thing will make believers who are democrats lose hopes for their party knowing there can be such discontent over something as important as the inclusion of god. I do not know if it would make them go republican but it might make them abstain from voting for them.

First Republican Ad Hits Democrats for Booing, Rejecting God

The first Republican ad is out that hits Democrats for initially rejecting God and then booing adoption of an emergency amendment to the party platform adding God back in after coming under heavy criticism nationwide.

The add, sponsored by the congressional campaign of Florida pro-life Rep. Allen West, features both footage of Democrats loudly rejecting the amendment and booing it after its eventual adoption as well as footage of talking heads like Democratic strategist Paul Begala calling the ordeal an embarrassment for the Democratic Party.
