So much oil, so much resources, yet the people are so poor and the money (bolivar) has no value?

True, they do produce a lot of oil. However, this is there only real source of income. If they were to stop this, the country would go even further downhill. There are a lot of countries that complain about the US, but freely take US money. Chavez's OPEC brothers must be willing to take on some monetary support for him to cut off shipments for too long.

Venezuela's Chavez says Iran has 'right' to nuclear program

https://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2005-03...uela-iran_x.htm

QUOTE
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez defended Iran on Friday in its dispute with the United States and Europe over its nuclear program, saying Iran has a right to atomic energy.

Chavez, whose country is a leading U.S. oil supplier, announced his stance after meeting Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who declared that both governments will stand "firm against any aggression."

"Venezuela and Iran agree in firmly rejecting the imperialist policy of the United States."

This certainly supports the view that Chavez is leaning towards becoming a dictator and one who opposes democratic views. Will Venezuela turn out to be another Cuba that is alienated by the U.S because of the leader's views? Can the U.S afford to lose their largest oil supplier?

I was pondering wether to put this in the Religions Board, but the issue is not so much about what Religion he, Pat Robertson, is but what he said in his capacity as a Religious Leader:

Televangelist Calls for Chavez' Death

AP - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson called on Monday for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him a "terrific danger" to the United States.

When I read about Pat Robertson's comments, I just about fell out of my chair! (Can you believe this guy actually ran for president of the United States?)

The interesting part is, President Chavez already believed that the USA would "take him out" at some point. I don't recall what his reasons are, but he's believed that for some time. So Robertson's remarks have justified his delusions, and now there will be real scrutiny if anything actually *does* happen to Chavez.

Here's the pertinent question; is Bush as bad a president as Chavez has portrayed him to be?
