Money Vs. Education? - Page 2

Absolutely, I agree that higher education is essential. Whether you get that education in college or in some non-traditional way is important only if you plan on working in a "Corporate America" type of setting, which requires a degree of some sort to pass beyond the "serf" level. Management and higher positions are rarely given to individuals who lack a degree.

I agree with Matt that it's important to work in the field of your choice whilst attending college, even if you don't "need" the money from that work. Experience is a huge deciding factor in landing a future career position, besides deciding whether or not you actually enjoy that field of work.

In my opinion, of course.

Education Vs Money

From my personal experience, I believe that the first factor one should consider when in the verge of a decision of education is for one to be fascinated with the subject, to have a dream of life interconnected with that subject. Of course, if you eliminate the factor "realistic future job" and "money", you might end up with a decree that doesn't offer many career opportunities that are realistic, but you will have dedicated 3 or whatever years of your life doing something that you really love and learning, opening up your horizons, growing intellectually.
I will attend a Social Anthropology decree this year and although I know that my dream of working in research will probably never come true, but at least I have a dream and I can work towards it. I may work as a journalist or a teacher or something completely irrelevant, but that's how life is, complete change. Plus, I think that the subject I've chosen will give me many things for my life, as well as for discovering myself and the reason of life. Education is something you do for yourself, not for money. Or I may be too naive, eh? (I like to be though, I have another 5 years before having to face living in the real world)
