Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 RPG Main Game - Page 93

Combat Begins!(Round one)

Spider 0 Initiative =23 (26 HP)
A large spider drops down out of a hidden passage (large hole covered and camouflaged with thick webs) above the large room behind the party. It attacks Krusten who is in the back of the party next to Elrik. Krusten takes 9 damage and is poisoned.

Spider 2 Initiative =20 (14 HP)
One of the 3 dog sized spiders that was feeding on the bodies lurches forth charging the front of the party fangs drawn. It moves into attack range and attempted to bite Felipe and barely missing.

Matt Initiative =18 (27 HP) holds his action.

Felipe Initiative = 15 (20 of 22 HP)
Is ready to attack and swings at the spider when it comes into range.
Roll a D20 add to it 1 for your melee attack and then add the (+#) of the weapon you are using. You have 2 weapons to pick from, are you using the bastard sword that is a (+2) and deals 1D10+2 damage? If you are going to be using the rapier that is a (+4) and deals 1D6+4 damage. You only roll for damage if your attack roll succeeds, the D20 roll is the attack roll.

Elrik Sal'din in the back Initiative =14 (18 HP)
Cast the spell Light down the hall near the noise, then quickly turns around facing the back as the woman next to him, Krusten, gives a scream of pain as a large spider from out of nowhere bites down into her arm. Your round was spent casting light but you are now aware there is a monster within your threat range as the group is flanked.

Praos Initiative =13 (24 HP) holds his action.

Alexander in the front Initiative =11 (26 HP)
He raises his sword and takes a stance, ready to attack when the spiders come close. Please roll for your attack on the spider that charged the group.

Haru mid back Initiative=9 (17 of 18 HP) hands shaking with fear, he throws one of the two spears over Krustens head at the large spider, dealing it 4 damage.

Krusten Initiative=8 (26 HP) makes a grapple check to attempt to pull her hand from its gaping maw as the venom of its fangs is injected into her arm. She failed her attempt to pull free and the sound of a breaking bone emits loudly in the silent air.

Spider 3 Initiative = 6 (8 HP) gives out a screeching sound calling for its bothers and sisters deep within the chasm of the networking hallways to come to their aid.

Izumi middle rear Initiative =5 (28 HP)
Switches weapons in hands and is ready for attack. If you wish to attack this round make your roll and declare with which weapon you will be using. I am guessing you will be targeting the large one in the back nearest to you?

Spider 1 Initiative =4 (10 HP) Keep gnawing on the pile of body's.

Alexander strikes as the spider nears his position.

Out of Game=To Hit:18+7=25
Dmg=3+ (not sure about my damage bonus, I think +9 because of the +2 sword. If I'm right, is my to hit also a +9? I don't really get 3.5 yet.
Anyways, I rolled a 3 on a d8)

Izumi turns to face the large spider biting down on Krusten, and with a grunting heave, throws her spear at it. (Out of Character: Attack 12+3=15 Damage 6 Chance to hit Krusten as half cover 50/50: rolled 65= did not hit Krusten)

As the spider is hit, Izumi 'huzzahs' as she is reminiscent of her younger years in the Militia of De-Bar Ren. (I declare my Dodge against the large spider;gives me +1 to AC against it)

Out of game: Clarification on your rolls

Oinodaemon you rolled an 18, then you add the 7 for your melee bonus, then you add the magic bonus of your weapon in this case this is a +2.
So your roll of 18 +7+2 = 27 not 25. Note you rolled an 18 and your weapon has improved critical on it with a range of 18-20. Since you rolled within your critical strike range, I then roll to confirm your critical. If my roll is good you do damage x2. If I roll badly on your confirmation then you deal damage x1 as per normal.

I rolled to confirm and it was good. You are doing double damage this round and as per your special magical weapon it starts to glow. Also this means on your next turn it will act as a +4 for that turn only. At the end of that turn it stops glowing.

Your damage is your roll of 1D8 (Dice type determined by type of weapon). You also add the magical modifier to your total damage. In this case +2 again. And, that also will be a +4 for next round only. You said you rolled a 3 so add 2 to that = 5.
5x2 for critical =10. You deal 10 damage this turn. I hope me doing the math out long for you helped you and others understand how the combat rolls and damage works better. Always feel free to ask if there is something you need help with.

international QUOTE
You are using a +2 Masterwork Longsword of critical strike (5LB, 1D8, critical range untempered or added roll equals 18-20/×2, "when you critical it glows and For the next round is temporarily a +4 not a +2")

Elrik turns to face the spider and strikes it with his fire chain.

Attack 13 + 7=17
Damage 4 + 5 =9
Fire damage +5
Total damage 14

Not sure on the weapon or masterwork. I lack a Dungeons & Dragons handbooks here:(

Out Of Game: Felipe is using the Rapier KittenPunk. Is this result correct?

D20 result: 17 - 17+4 = 21?

In game:
Felipe your attack works, you slice forth at the dog sized spider who is directly in front of you that had charged out from the pile of bodies and attempted to bite you but missed. Your thin swift blade cuts through the air and into your foe dealing damage.

Out of game:
Felipe to determine how much damage you do, roll 1D6 and add your strength modifier +2 and +4 to it for your magic weapon.

Sgtlee, Elrik's turn was used casting a spell, but I will take your intent to attack with your chain on round 2.

For round 2,
Attack: you rolled a 13 + 3 for strength +2 for magic on weapon =18
Damage: (Normal 2d4 damage) + (1D6 Elemental damage)
You rolled a 4 and a ? (+3 for strength,+2 for magic on weapon = 5) so 4+ ?+5= ?
Fire damage +5 yes perfect. No you don't add anything to this.
Total damage ?+5 = ?

international QUOTE
Chain of Elements ( chain is +2, critical = 20, Normal 2d4 damage + 1D6 Elemental damage
