Future Earth - Jungle Biowarfare RPG - Page 22

The Game Master says...

While the others look on close by Uhura approaches the natives. You can now see it is three of them casually fishing and cooking their catch. They greet Uhura in a amicable but unexcited manner. When Uhura mentions the chief the natives are confused and state that they have heard no such thing. They can take you across the river but wish to know what you have to trade for the journey. One canoe can fit up to two of you plus the canoe handler.

The Game Master says...

Uhura represents the squad as she haggles a necklace and photo as a justifiable reason for passage across the waters. To her joy the natives are most pleased about the gifts and put down their fishing lines to immediately assist you.

First, they take the canoes on their shoulder and ask for your assistance. The canoe is light enough with all of you carrying it but probably would not be this way for one person.

Next, they move up river to a spot that is visibly more calm. You get in and they row skillfully to get to the other side.

Your destination is easily visible, plus you can see sticks with human skulls placed ahead, perhaps a warning for anyone thinking of stopping for leisure.

Upon reaching the shore they wait for you to get off while bidding you farewell and a "Be careful" caution. They quickly leave seemingly hoping that no one has seen them there by the way they try to watch all areas of the shoreline.

The terrain here is no different to the jungle you have come from but what is most apparent is the very high mountain a few miles off from where you stand. There are no visible paths with which to traverse towards it.

Your comms suddenly come on with a base commander addressing you in a sharp deep voice,

"Good, you have made it. Where is the soldier Gault? We could not pick none of you up on our satellite signal for a very long time and now that we've found you again we do not see him?"

You explain what happened and where you have been. The commander's main interest is, "How did you leave the body? Did you burn or bury it?" He also asks if you remember your prime directive?

GM: Make sure to delete your traded items. Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

Uhura finds what might serve as a good path to the great mountain.

Seth and Major brandish their cutlasses and begin hacking away at the bush. After a couple of minutes you come across a path that you can follow. After about 20 minutes of walking you can hear movement up ahead. You stop and watch as you see some natives in a small clearing talking and observing the trees above.

They appear to be from the Akuntsu tribe. Around their necks is a curious stone. One of them aims a very long blowgun up into the trees and blows. After a few seconds you can see a monkey falls out of the tree landing to the ground.

The Game Master says...

Everyone quickly finds cover as Seth and Major use their binoculars to better see what is happening ahead.

The natives are bare brown skin with a simple covering for their groin area. Their repulsive faces look strange as though they suffer with a bad case of acne. Around their necks is a curios looking stone or crystal which has seemingly caused a grotesque rash around the area of the skin where it rests.

They are armed with bows, blowgun and long knives. Around their waste they carry a small vial of liquid.

Seth is familiar with the monkey they have captured from an earlier time when the squad had their first encounter. You are shocked to see two natives take up the half asleep monkey by the arms and neck while the third scalps it. He pulls out a small saw to cut the skull all while the monkey is still alive. Once opened fully the native takes out a knife and uses it like a fork to begin eating the brain. They each take turns doing the same thing until there is none left. Their next task is to completely remove the skin and entails. They begin talking, laugh every now and again and then move causally deeper into the forest thus now being out of your view.

The Game Master says...

Major does a quick recon. Major feels that the only real path follows where the natives exited from your view.

You begin cautiously following the in the same direction. After about five minutes the surrounding jungle begins to be less thick thus enabling you to see a greater distance ahead. The natives stop in a small clearing where a camp is already set and they begin to prepare the monkey to be eaten.

Future Earth - Jungle Biowarfare RPG

The Game Master says...

Everyone plays their part in this grand jungle documentary featuring the amateur actors; Uhura as the girl away from home, Seth the camera man, Artemis, the entomologist insect finder and Major: spy. Major notes that they sit and eat the raw monkey pulling at the limbs like savages trying to see who gets more meat. The uncooked bloodied flesh covers their hands and face. They laugh scandalously as though their food makes them drunk. They do not say much in the context of conversation. Everything seems to be based on grunts and growls like a pack of wild animals.

Uhura does not pick up anything more than Major in fact from her perspective she can only see they are eating. At some point near the end of their feast one of them stops just as Artemis breaks a branch under foot. They look back towards you and grab their weapons trying to investigate the noise. They come in close and see Uhura, Seth and Artemis 'filming'.

GM: Are you convincing? Everyone except Major roll against Mind, if you have a skill such as Streetwise or Liaison you can use the bonus as a minus in this case (That's good). A number above your Mind means failure. Everyone say what you wish to do should you succeed or fail (To save time).

The Game Master says...

Everyone plays their part well but Artemis seems visibly nervous about the presence of the natives and they 'smell' that. Just as they start to approach her with their bloodied faces and hands, sniffing with their noses, Major appears from his hiding place and successfully distracts them towards him. They spin in a surprise manner and visibly start to raise their weapons but then slowly relax.

Uhura secretly uses her analyzer while Major talks with the natives. Uhura finds that the crystal they wear around their necks is radioactive and may explain why that region and their faces are so unsightly. The amount of radiation emitted is about the same as was found in the tree at the temple. Uhura notes that their blood's toxicity level is very acidic and seems to be slowly altering their bodies.

Meanwhile...

Major's very limited conversation helps the natives understand that you are investigating insects. They think the idea is funny, therefore they attempt to make fun of you. Regardless, they observe rather than leave.

The Game Master says...

Major engages the natives some more. They like that you show interest in their necklace and pound their chest with pride. Really, there is not many words to say between the two groups as their language cannot be translated. They make a signal towards the large mountain and bid you to follow.

Major follows and Uhura falls in line.

GM: Although not expressed I will assume Seth and Artemis also 'tag' along.

The walk will take awhile but your guides are obviously familiar with the terrain making the journey easier than if you attempted it on your own. After the space of about 20 minutes you come to a clearing surrounded by many tall trees. The native men stop and look at each other with some level of fear as you can hear monkey calls above your heads from the trees at the top. You spot one monkey and he looks similar to the one the natives killed earlier.

Your eyes as well as the monkeys' fall on the natives with their bloodied hands and face. It looks like it may be a delicate situation at this point.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.
