Future Earth - Jungle Biowarfare RPG - Page 2

The Game Master says...

Some of you reluctantly store your items while complaining in the process. The senior Inventory supervisor is amazed at what a task such a simple action is becoming as evident by his facial expressions. He says in a serious tone,

"Listen, we are professionals around here, we know what you'll need and what you don't, any problems you can take it up with the commander."

He then looks at Thomas,

"What's the matter, your stuff has sentimental value? We have no time for treasure keepers, either get with it or get out."

You can see that the military background of the supervisor is starting to show as he moves towards Inventory.

GM: Those of you who deposited ALL your equipment please make a note of it in your Equipment Space by putting a line before it and labeling it "Storage". Those of you who still want to keep items will need to visit with the Commander.

At Inventory the supervisor tells the warehouse controllers something and then leaves with these words,

"They will take care of you."

You make known that being documentary producers is what you wish to be disguised as for the mission. The warehouse team start assembling items as you try to squeeze in your desires but they don't acknowledge you at all, they are under orders as it were.

GM: Before we continue I need confirmation if anyone still wishes to see the Commander about their belongings.

The Game Master says...

Although Thomas stores his items he still insists to speak with the Commander about it. Thomas is mostly told that the Commander is too busy now to take personal calls and he would have to make an appointment.

Meanwhile...

Suitcase-like containers are brought and placed in front of you. You open them and see they are sorted by type, size and fitted into categories. You are told that you should only take one or other of the item in the same category but NOT both items in the same category.

The following are your choices:

Clothes: Casual (pants, t-shirt, cap) or Jumpsuit (includes utility pockets)
Footwear: Hiking boots or Sneakers
Grooming: Smelling good or Basic only
Apparatus: Tripod with mini-corder or hand computer
Food: (you are asked how many rations you want based on your diet)
Protection (low-tech): Hiking pole or Cutlass or Serrated dagger
Protection (high-tech): (to be issued later)
Disguise: Photo of pet or Photo of family
Sentimental: Gold chain or Ring or Hand 4D gaming console
Visual: Electronic binoculars or detector (harmful chemicals)
Storage: Backpack or Shoulder bag

In addition to your choices above you are each given:

1. Military grade regional encrypted communicator
2. Thermal control sealed sleeping bag
3. Camp set (includes utensils, fire starter, etc.)
4. First aid kit (includes anti-venom, boosters, anti-hallucination, etc)
5. ID implant (like a passport detailing your generic background, name, etc.)
6. Compass

You are told that you cannot land in the country with high end weaponry. You will be given adequate weaponry later.

Two of you only will be given Element Analyzers, a small hand device with a compartment for placing samples, which basically check the molecular makeup of anything deposited into it.

Inventory advises you they have nothing else to offer.

GM: Say what you wish to do now by stating who takes what.

The Game Master says...

Major asks about getting more information to one of the Inventory controllers that is awaiting him to choose his gear.

"I guess you'll have a briefing for that." He replies in an uninterested way.

At that same time...

Nathan complains about the equipment not being enough to disguise them. The Inventory worker who happens to be in front of him looks at him in a strange way,

"You must be from a low-tech country huh?"

He looks at one of his fellow workers who chuckles.

"Have you tried scanning your ID implant yet?"

With that he shakes his head while he attends to those who still have not chosen their equipment.

GM: Where is the equipment lists for the rest? Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

As you finish acquiring your gear the senior Inventory supervisor returns,

"OK, good, you're finally ready. We wanted you to choose things that could be used in the mission and at the same time we wanted you to be familiar with it. For instance, the photograph you chose is probably more attached to your unconscious mind and will enable you to lie better about it. Same thing with the type of items you selected. Hence we did not want to force you to take anything based on our choice and at the same time did not want you to have connections with your own items as it interferes with the ID signals".

All this sounds technical and beyond what you know of the technology but you try not to look ignorant about it. He then bids you to follow him. He takes you to a control center where you each are hooked up to wires, computers and tubes. You are then told that the ID chips that are going to be programmed and inserted under your skin will contain details of the production company, your position and other aspects of your life. For it to work with your brain's subconscious visual relay system you must think upon the things you believe about the photograph and the items you carry.

Being that you have come this far you agree and the process begins.

After a couple of hours...

You hadn't realized that you were asleep, but you do squint and awake with memories you never had before. You are shown the photograph you chose and it looks familiar, so familiar in fact that you can give spontaneous details about it as well as your background in the production company. Amazed by this technology you begin to wonder what 'else' you know, but before you can ponder it some control workers come in to examine you and test how well the ID chip interfaced with your brain.

Following this...

Everything checks "OK", or so they tell you. You are taken to a mess area where you are offered something to eat, drink and relax a bit. In the course of doing this your 'new' memories are coming to the forefront of your mind. Everything seems to make sense now: your items, your past, your mission - you understand the purpose of it all. In the process of this the commander you initially met with returns.

"You've been take care of and you have all you need now, which may seem little but yours is a scouting mission so you will be our eyes and ears. On the ground you'll be advised more as things unfold and supplied with better weapons, but this is only if absolutely necessary."

He then references the time...

"You'll be leaving in 60 minutes, any questions?"

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

As Nathan starts to ask his curious questions the commander is visibly disturbed by it. He makes a signal with his hand to call over some of the technical response team to check Nathan's ID chip. In the process he does attempt to answer,

"Yes those are good questions..."

He talks and begins to explain. As he does so you all feel reassured by the answers and they make comforting sense as though you understand the higher purpose of it all to bolster your desire to accomplish this mission for the greater good of man despite the immediate rational behind your presence and mission not fully being understood intricately. The commander then leaves the room with you now in a sanguine attitude and the following words,

"OK, I wish you all good luck."

You are then advised to board an awaiting ship that will take you to your destination.

The Game Master says...

You all board a sleek military colored transport vessel. You enter the hull where you are shown to some seats that look suitable for soldiers and their gear. Military personnel assist you at every turn. As you are strapped in you feel very tired but unusually relaxed. The pilot comes over the comm,

"We'll be taking off shortly, strap in."

In less than 10 minutes the ship's engines rumble and the slow hum of the engine's thrusters makes you sleepy....

Suddenly...

You are awoken by a whirling siren, the ship is shaking as though you were in the midst of a serious earthquake. You can hardly move as the g-force is forcing you to stay seated. After about 20 seconds the ship appears to stabilize but it is still rattling. You then hear an explosion, the ship vibrates even more.

The Game Master says...

You each try to employ what comes most natural to you at this point but your actions are halted. From where you are seated you can see a most unusual and surprising scene unfold before you.

Opposite to where you are facing the hull breaks open as though it were ripped open by an incredible force. A bright light emerges almost blinding you and covering your ability to see the cause of all of this. Then to your astonishment a primitive looking Amazonian man comes through the light. His browned skin burnt from the sun show bright colors of feathers and body markings. He holds a long slender tube and spear. His face looks enraged by your presence. You try to move but you are still well strapped in at this point. He drops his tube and spear, then from behind his back he pulls out a modern looking machete, raises it in the air and with his eyes enlarged and focused on you he gets read to swing.

GM: Say what you want to do now.

The Game Master says...

As you each struggle to act on what you see your eyes dim and everything goes dark - blackout.

You open your eyes again sluggishly as though you were asleep. In front of you in the waiting room you were at before the 'flight' you see the commander and he says,

"Yes those are good questions..."

He talks and begins to explain.
