QUOTE
That's the problem with most people, they're quick to cry freedom.

We have been crying it for over 200 years now, so I guess that is more consistent than quick. It is the foundation of which we based our government, make no illusion about it. We still have the right to bear arms in the event that we all under a tyrannical government.

QUOTE
Any freedom you have in a country is implied and can be taken away in an instant. Better yet you may be fed the illusion that you are free by a capitalist regime because they want you to buy.

Yes it can. We have many freedoms which have been removed from us and we are pretty happy about it as well:

QUOTE
You cannot threaten another with bodily harm (that's assault).
You cannot scream out your windows after midnight (that's disturbing the peace).
You cannot discuss with friends how you will defraud a bank (that's conspiracy).
You cannot show adult material where children can see (that's exploitation, abuse...).
You cannot write your message on a public wall without permission (vandalism).
You cannot tell lies about another (libel and slander).
You cannot publish military or governmental secrets (treason).
You cannot speak of a subject if a judge has imposed a gag order (comtempt).
You cannot swear too much at a ball game (obscenity).
You cannot yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater (that's the crime of incitement).
You cannot engage in otherwise acceptable behavior on a discussion board (such as this) if the owner of the board prohibits it. Yes, JB can legally kick me off if I say "prohibits."
You cannot wear your own clothes in a school if a uniform is mandated.
You cannot give away your company's secrets.
You cannot insult your boss and not expect to be fired.
...the list goes on and on...

Please, pick one or two of those that socialism will help us with.

QUOTE
Is the Patriot Act making you more free?

I guess it is what you mean by free. People were scared to come out of their homes following 911. Has this act and the result so far of no repeats allowing people to live more free? Well that is for them to tell you. I know that I am happy to be stopped in airports and have my luggage checked for box cutters, but that is me. However, the Patriot Act is frequently reviewed by the judicial and legislative branches of government to ensure that the spirit of the Act is intact and not being abused. Few governments allow this type of review process. Certainly, a Stalinist Socialist regime would not permit it. Chavez and Castro seems to like little shackles on their moves at all, but those cultures are just thriving and probably need little of it. If the people do not want the Patriot Act and communicate that desire to their representatives, there will be no Patriot Act. WE have that power and it is written in our constitution.

QUOTE
Are you more free now that you were forced to pay certain high amount of money for something essential as oil / gas just a few weeks ago? Why do other countries not have this problem? Why were they able to subsidise oil for the sake of their people, for instance the Venezuelans.

Where do these magnificent subsides come from? Do the countries "gods" deliver the deficit weekly? Why no...those government use taxpayer monies to pay for the deficit if they are democracies. If they are socialist countries, like you mention, then yes the government is giving away oil/gas to their people for cheap prices. Perhaps Chavez is providing cheap subsidized oil/gas to give people the illusion that he is actually doing something, while they watch their infrastructure rot from lack of capital investment.

However, as horrible as you seem to think the US and it government are...why do we pay some of the lowest gas prices of any western country? Well gosh, our government doesnt tax it to infinite levels. OH...and by the way...some states actually dropped the state gas tax in order to lower the price.

Our current government is on a very short leash. Obama has already mentioned what will and will not get him re-elected and we arent even 100 days into his term. Obama talks about it taking longer to pull us out of the government driven real estate bubble burst, but he really knows that he has 2.5 years...tops. So if we are all moving in one direction, that direction has 2.5 years to work or the US people will dump this direction.

The US will never go totally socialist. We have for a long time had some socialist programs and that will not stop. We have given Chrysler loans before and been paid back. We expect this from the loans we are giving the auto companies now. All banks are not being bought. There are some banks that are in very good shape, but you dont hear about those and they arent being bought by the government.

Socialism crushes the entreprenurial spirit of the US and it will not be tolerated by the people. During times like these, the US people want the government to lend a hand if possible...we expect it for our taxes. However, when we get back to a stable economy, we once again will not want the government's inefficiency burdening our growth. We will just have to once again better define the rules by which the mortgage companies are allowed to operate and then let them operate.

March to Socialism - Chicago tax

The hometown of President Barack Obama is finding new and innovative ways to suck every last drop of tax dollars it can from its citizens. After watching Obama's first few weeks in office it's not a surprise that Chicago is the place where the President learned the ropes. Ref. Source 2

March to Socialism - hypocrisy

The elite and the politicians of the world live by one simple rule: they don't have to live by the rules. Who is practicing what they preach on conserving energy and trying to reduce their carbon footprint? We have a lot of data to get this answer from. As the leaders of the globe fly around the earth, as they make plans for a one world government - they are pumping tons and tons of carbon into the air. Who's the worst? Ref. Source 1

Who You Calling Socialist?

"We are all socialists now," proclaims Newsweek. We are creating "socialist republics" in the United States, says Mike Huckabee, adding, on reflection, that "Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff." We are witnessing the Obama-era phenomenon of "European socialism transplanted to Washington," says Newt Gingrich. Ref. Source 2

Well get used to it we are all under the save (same) government and its moving in one direction.

That my friend, in the above short sentence, is the very evil of socialism.

If you are not moving in the same direction, you are either carried forcibly, or trampled in the Journey(I.e. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot). There is no room for innovation, because there is no one allowed to deviate from the "one direction" that you are applauding. If you disagree you are brought back into line by the word or the sword. Sounds peachy.

I will do everything in my power to fight socialism, even if it means being trampled by the mill of socialist conformity.

Freedom over conformity.

People under a capitalist regime are always afraid to conform to anything. Just look at Madoff he rode capitalists like a donkey for years and you could not even figure him out. Now its socialist principles here to save America before it flushes itself down the toilet.
