What do you all think about the visit?

You have to wonder what do the Chinese have to gain by this, maybe they are looking for more natural resources to drive their increasing population.

I was observing the promises given from the Chinese. They are promising US$3 billion for the region to upgrade infrastructure. Now here is the catch:

1. Only countries that supported the One China policy will benefit
2. The construction will be done by a Shanghi company out of China.
3. This is a loan, it is supposed to be low interest but still a loan none the less.

So they loan the islands money at a rate and hire a Chinese firm thus returning back the money they borrowed back to China and still have to pay interest on that - win win for China.

There also seemed to be a problem between the media and the Chinese at the Hilton when they took over the hosting. No local media were allowed, not even the PM's own camera man. Apparently the media heard no "Third world media were allowed". Not sure if they misinterpreted, "No third parties allowed."

Trinidad Visit Jinping Xi President China

The Express had a great article today with regards to the poor protocol shown during the visit of the President of China. Well, by now you all know the mistake Andy Johnson committed when he allowed the guest (the Chinese President) to speak first and then Kamla. But then the Chinese President himself was holding an umbrella over his head and that of his wife's head. No protocol persons were there to go on board the aircraft with umbrellas to hold them for them! And knowing it was raining, there was no canopy over the red carpet. rolleyes.gif
