The Significance Of Trinity Falling

In Reloaded we are shown Trinity falling out the building window not once, but twice. The first time was a 'vision', if you will, of Neo seeing all the events that will happen in the future. The second time was the actual chain of events just as Neo saw it. Here are two questions based on this scene in particular:

1. Why was Neo able to foresee the exact events that were going to happen?

2. Why wasn't Trinity, using two machine guns, not able to shoot straight an agent falling right in front of her?

Just when I thought every topic was covered.

Neo was able to see the future as it was going to happen because of the messianic nature of being the one. It was the same reason he had all the other powers that normal people didn't, like seeing the Matrix in code.

I think her fall was destined to happen. She had to fall to create the necessary choice for Neo to either assimilate or to save Trinity. I think the point of this part in the movie is that while Neo couldn't change the events, he still had choices to make that could effect the outcome of those situation. She would have indeed fallen to her death as he dreamt if his choice had not been different. The entire situation with Neo at that point revolved around his human choice.

1. Why was Neo able to foresee the exact events that were going to happen?

The Oracle sort of explains to Neo why he is able to foresee the future:

Neo: I see Trinity, and something happens, something bad. She starts to fall, and then I wake up.
The Oracle: Do you see her die?
Neo: No.
The Oracle: You have the sight now, Neo. You are looking at the world without time.

As The One, Neo is beginning to realize his potential, and it is just fitting that he has the gift of the Oracle, as part of the Trinity.

2. Why wasn't Trinity, using two machine guns, not able to shoot straight an agent falling right in front of her?

Good question. I'd have to use the old 'Agents can dodge bullets' theory to answer this question. As upgraded Agents, they can even dodge bullets while falling. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

To answer the question of why trinity couldn't shoot the agent, the answer is, she did. If you watch the agent's left shoulder closely you can see at least one bullet hit him. Because he's an upgrade though, he still keeps on pursuing her and even fires the Trinity-hitting shot immediately after being hit himself. Now of course most of her rounds were stray, but I imagine that even a well-trained rebel isn't expected to be that accurate while falling and double wielding fully automatics. The guns themselves don't lend all that much accuracy while firing full auto sustained - it's just a matter of spray and pray. That being said, she did hit the agent, but the round and its placement just weren't enough to stop him.

Interesting, I no longer have the DVDs to view that, but I will take your word for it. This does bring up something though... would prior training in "How to shoot when falling out a building" have helped? It seems that training in something always gives the edge.

The Significance Of Trinity Falling

I think training would have helped, but the rebels probably don't have a program for that since it's kind of a "you're going to die doing this anyway" type of move. Then again, there's no reason you couldn't practice it in a loading program just by having the operator load up the neccessary elements.
