How strict are these competitions? I mean do they examine and test your car before the race starts? Who is to say that someone does not put some kind of new technology in their car?
Offtopic but, We have other vehicle related Boards if you want to share your knowledge there too. Thanks. |
The rules are very strict, as like Nascar we have a sanctioning body called R.O.A.R (Remotely Operated Auto Racers). Roar officals are at every major race to in force all rules. Some of the rules that are check at all races are listed below.
1. Weight, must weigh 41oz after race.
2. A minimum roof hieght of 4 1/4 inches
3. Minimum ground clearance of 1/8 of an inch.
4. Wheelbase (distance from center of front wheel to center of rear wheel) 9 5/8 min. and 11 in. max.
5. Width of the car, oval rules allow 7 1/2 in. to 8 1/2 inches wide.
6. Batteries must be 4200 mAh. or less and be a sub "c" size. Batteries are randomly wieghed through-out the weekend, as this is the easiest way of checking.
7. Motor builders must submit motors to ROAR prior to any National event. They are checked after every race for a ROAR stamp, and randomaly torn down to measure wire size and wieght of the armature.
8. Bodies ( car shell) are also checked to see if they meet Roar rules. Bodies must be submitted to Roar prior to be legal for any event.
A few other things are noted in the rule book, such as no traction control devices or antilock brakes.
Are they stringent to the point that they measure each car, test each motor, etc.? Or do they eyeshot everything and only call someone who looks suspicious? I guess I am trying to ascertain wether someone could make a car switch in a race by bringing two that looked the same, but have one with more power, etc.
