ESPN is reporting that retired quarterback Brett Favre is scheduled to meet with Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress about a possible comeback. The report Tuesday cited an anonymous source. It said Favre and Childress will meet at an undisclosed location later in the week. The longtime Packers quarterback retired for the second time after spending last season with the New York Jets.

As a vikings fan I have to say that while to some this may be good news and it would be nice to see Farve play for the Vikings I do not think it is a good idea. We have some young quarterbacks that are very good and they can grow up under fire in the game. I would rather go that route than bring in Farve. We will see what Childress does.

Unfortunately, Childress I am sure feels he has to win a lot this year or he will be gone by the next. That said and the fact that they benched Jackson for Gus Forotte last year basically tells you where he stands. Actually, I think Jackson has shown improvement every year and maybe this is the year for him, but can Childress afford to bet it all on him? Rosenfels has been a life long back-up and if he was really that good, he would have taken a starting job away from someone. I really cant believe he wasnt good enough to take the starting job in Miami while he was there.

I say sign Favre up for a low risk contract that is filled with bonuses if he ends up actually being the starting QB, number of wins, how far into the playoffs they make it and other stats, then let him and the other 2 have at it during pre-season and find out who really is the best one to lead the team. Just make sure that Favre understands that the job isnt just being given to him...he will have to earn it. That alone may make him back-off this latest attempt to unretire. However, the Vikings are probably his best bet at leading a playoff caliber team.

Jackson was benched last year because he was not understanding that you have to be calm in the pocket. He learned this lesson very well by watching Forotte play. When the brought Jackson back in late in the season he was more poised and calmer in the pocket. Thus the Vikings were able to make the playoffs. It is my belief that the vikings can make the playoffs with the crew they have. I am sure that if Childress decides to bring Farve in then it will be another winning season for us.
