What do you know of Streptococcus?

Streptococcus is a genus of spherical, Gram-positive bacteria, and a member of the phylum Firmicutes.[1] Streptococci are lactic acid bacteria.

Cellular division occurs along a single axis in these bacteria, and thus they grow in chains or pairs, thus the name - from Greek streptos, meaning easily bent or twisted, like a chain. Contrast this with staphylococci which divide along multiple axes and generate grape-like clusters of cells.

There is an unusual connection between mouth diseases and what ends up happening to our heart. Maybe we are taking these bacteria in through what we eat but not having the immune system boosted to eradicate it.

Two Group A Streptococcus genes linked to 'flesh-eating' bacterial infections. Group A Streptococcus bacteria cause illnesses ranging from mild nuisances like strep throat to life-threatening conditions such as flesh-eating disease, also known as necrotizing fasciitis. Life-threatening infections occur when the bacteria spread underneath the surface of the skin or throat and invade the underlying soft tissue. Researchers have found two group A Streptococcus genes involved in invasive infections, which may be potential targets for therapeutics.https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/09/170922150529.htm.

This flesh eating, drug resistant bacteria is darn scary. And this is how mother nature works, slowly, to bring things back in balance. Right now we are probably reaching the point where there are too many people and mother nature is experimenting with different means to reduce our numbers. She may come up with multiple means.
