AP - Two astronauts face a tedious cleaning and lube job Tuesday, the first of a series of spacewalks to resurrect a massive joint that turns one of the international space station's power-generating solar-panel wings toward the sun.
I bet that mechanic make more then 25 an hour! One does not put much thought about daily maintenance in such a harsh environment but seeing this made me think a bit about how many things a person would need to know to be part of the space program. Working in a space suit but a master mechanic/pipe fitter plumber and electrician. I often wish I had pursued the space program.
What I like now in the space program you do not have to be a jack of all trades anymore. With three or more people going up in each launch to the space station you can have a expert in mechanics, a expert in electricty and so on instead of having to know how to fix most anything. Having general knowledge can help but no as much of a requirement as when there was only one or two people going up.
