George Washington was a military veteran with a checkered past. John Adams was a farmer turned lawyer. And according to historian Jack Rakove, the men we know as America's Founding Fathers were, in general, disinclined to revolt. Rakove's new book is Revolutionaries: A New History of the Invention of America.

Rebels Reluctant Revolutionaries Colonial
Of course they were reluctant. They were about to revolt against what was one of the best and strongest armies of their time. If it had not been the taxes and tariffs the british were placing on the American people we probably would not have seen a revolt at all. I am glad that our forefathers did revolt and give us a country that has grown to be a world leader in so short of time.
