That's a pity but have you thought about Gamma World or other defunct Role-playing Game system?

Those Star Wars owners are taking a hard stance. I doubt they rigidly enforce it. You could always try Hot Chicks and the inventor is a member here too. I think it has a Savage Worlds feel to it but I could be wrong.

Malcomshaw, I see people keep referencing this game system so I made some inquires again to Lucas Arts Inc.

While I wait for a reply, did you ever get a response from FFG?

What about your own Email to Lucas Arts Ltd, did they ever respond?

I wonder if you could carry out something like this but not actually refer to it as "Star Wars" Possibly a generic familiar name and keep the images also generic. Then again, by doing so it is no longer actually Star Wars but something else.

JB,

I have received no responses from any of my inquiries. Apparently I do not have the clout to warrant a response. Sad indeed.

The name carries the game for the most part. However, a Star Wars-esque game can be arranged. How about I work out a name and we can discuss mechanics and game system and other relevant details.

Aren't you a member of FFG? Surely if you post an open support thread someone must say something? I'm looking at them mostly because they do have a license but I don't know to what extent, in other words that they can grant permission to a third party.

Yes that will be good, but before you dive into that here are some questions off the top of my head we may need to consider:

If it were a "Star Wars-esque game" How would we let people know about it without mentioning "Star Wars"?

If people did find it and make a comment, "Oh this is Star Wars?" Do we say it is not? Do we hint that its based on the concept? If so how will you refer to known characters? For instance is saying "Jedi" Or "The Force" During role-play going to make us burn in intellectual property hell?

What about the system of play (The rules) are those licensed by the Role-playing Game creators or Lucas as well?

Maybe you can make some inquiries over at Wizards about their outdated system and what rules govern its usage even though they do not have a current license?

I am a member of FFG. And I will continue with the line of inquiry. Specifically looking into permissions and licensing.

White Star, Stars without Number, and Rogue Trader - are Star Wars-esque and I am currently researching them for permissions, player/fan support, game system, and licensing.

It might be a temporary thing. Kind of like Purgatory. Just Kidding.

We sought use of licensed images, LLA wouldn't allow. The game systems are unique to the developing companies (West End Games, WotC, FFG)..And there are certain names I am certain that are licensed, which would need to be avoided. I could adequately develop a setting in another time line in another part of the galaxy tucked far far away.

See the previous statement.

Again, I am willing to search out any answers that might promote a Star Wars-esque game here.

If you go that route what stops you from just simplifying your own system or even going with something like Traveller?

Traveller, is one I have not sought out. So I am behind the 8 ball on this one.

As to which system I would use, I have not made a choice. I would probably go with a mashup, and simplify some of the mechanics. D20/WotC is something most people would be familiar with and would be the most logical choice as a base. It is more about the use of source material as there is a lot of existing, quality material.

As was mentioned in another thread, I think we could avoid numerous legal issues, by choosing an obscure time period and an unfamiliar section of the universe.
