No, green was to mimic the green computer screens that we used to see in the early eighties. I should not mention that cause everyone will think I'm an old man.

Ahh, that brings back memories, 
Having to squint to see the screen after a few long hours sitting in front of them. I sure am glad I don't see them around all that much anymore, I was lucky enough to be using them at the end of their lifespan, at least where I am anyways. Though come to think of it my old school still stored them and we used to take them apart and put them together again just for kicks when we were bored in electronics.
