Storing Water

It is one thing to store food, but water is more necessary if it is not accessible during a crisis. Do you have water storage in your home at this very moment?

international QUOTE
NO WATER FOR CHINESE CITY OF 3.8 MILLION

A chemical plant explosion in China that caused benzene to leak into a key river has left a city of 3.8 million people without drinking water.

Water Storing

We generally have a month's worth of just drinking water. Recently, I purchased a 30-gallon storage barrel with a pump. I'm not sure if it will be for drinking or just for general purposes, like washing. I think it's easier, and perhaps safer, to have the little 12 or 16 ounce bottles for drinking that are pre-packaged. I always worry about the chlorine necessary to store huge amounts of water, and the commercial bottles last about two years.

Storing Water History & Civil Business Politics

Here is a very good example of why water storage is so important:

international QUOTE (CNN)
A U.S. Attorney has opened an investigation looking into the release of a potentially dangerous chemical into parts of West Virginia's water supply.

Nearly 200,000 residents in nine counties have been told not to drink the water and avoid cooking with it, brushing their teeth or even taking a shower.

The spill of 4-methylcyclohexane methanol was found coming from a 48,000-gallon tank at a chemical storage facility about a mile upriver from the West Virginia American Water plant. The chemical is used to wash coal before it goes to market.

Mysteries Persist Surrounding West Virginia Chemical Spill

West Virginia officials have told residents to flush out their home water systems so that they can get water again. Tests at the affected water treatment plant show almost no contamination. However, the spill indicates how little is known about many chemicals in common use. Many of these chemicals are poorly known because people outside controlled workplaces are usually not exposed. And few people know where these chemicals are stored.

After seeing this on the news the hubby and I decided to have a small water storage in our basement just in case. It won't provide bathing water but at least we can drink and cook with it.
