Targul will ask the Castellan for a tour of the town's defenses. If an attack is imminent, they should start on doing what they can to make sure the town is as ready as they can be for the attack.
And, having been on the receiving end of many a town's defenses, Targul would be something of an 'expert' on making sure the town is as ready as it can be.
Nyzahr has kept in the background during most of the meeting with the town officials, keeping herself covered both with coif and hood, not wanting to attract undue attention and raising alarm because of her fiendish appearance in this already troubled time.
However, at the mention of Geoffroy's idea on tracking down the source of the magic block, she hovers a little closer to Owen and gives him a questioning look: obviously she seems to consider this is something where the both of them could be of use.
Lia steps back after introducing herself. She steps over to Geoffroy. " I think when this meeting is over that I'm going to pay the Temple of Chauntea a visit. We might learn something useful there. It will be a good idea to see how our prayers are affected by the strengthening of the magical block here. I don't wish to waste spells finding out our limits here. Would you like to accompany me?" The wood elf smiles at him.
Cahleth unfortunately comes on a little too strongly, several people he questions think he's accusing them and their peers of something. Some people in town are now a little more reluctant to speak with the ranger.
Sar'ai and Cratol find that there isn't much of an underground here. There are almost certainly a few independent and small time thieves and the like, but they don't find anyone particularly seedy, save for a drunkard that she doubts knows much of import. Unfortunately Elanna also does not spot the man they pinpointed earlier. The familiar was quite thorough, so he may simply not be out in the open anymore.
The group is told that Wellesby is at the temple, being treated by the town rector for injuries
The Castellan would gladly show Targul and any others interested around. You saw the curtain wall when you came in. It is a thick log wall reinforced in places with metal ties. Its sturdy enough to withstand casual assault, but a concerted effort could bring it down, and siege equipment would push through with little effort. There are two gates, east and west, with a small guard tower by each.
The fort is on considerably better footing. The hill it is built on provides some natural defense, forcing a steep climb on anyone not using the earthen ramp leading to the main gate.
It is small, but sturdy, with tight fitting stonework. The walls are arranged in a simple rectangle, with two towers on opposite corners, each adorned with a single large ballista. The southern wall has a structure built into it, containing storage, a small barracks, and an armory.
Over the past few days, as it became clear trouble was on the horizon, Escobert has been working to refresh the fort's supplies. At least in terms of what the town is capable of providing, the fort has most of what it needs. The people prepared to defend it are another matter though. The town has a few good fighters like Tallis, but most of the militia have never seen real combat.
Onwen would ask about the presence of any type of library that the town may have where he might be able to research the magical phenomenon more thoroughly; maybe there is something on record of similar events having occurred in the past. If there is no library then Onwen would suggest to the other magically inclined members of the party that since the emanations seem to be stronger here it may be possible to try and follow the emanations back to their source or least closer to their source by making their way further into the town to see if they notice any difference in the strength of the vibrations/humming sensations.
The largest knowledge repository is owned by Rector Falconmoon and is located at the temple. Much of it is related to the gods, but includes history and other subjects. The wizard Wellesby also has his own collection of books, mostly dealing with the arcane.
Both Onwen and Sar'ai notice the strength of the 'buzzing' fluctuating as they move about town, though pinpointing the strongest location will take more time as the difference is subtle enough to be undetectable if you weren't specifically paying attention to it.
