The Quiet Shadow says...Yes, I suspected as much given the low roll. I probably should have just gone with another spell, perhaps another use of Command. Still, I thought at the time I thought it was a good idea.

There's no immediate sign of that, and the restraints aren't quite taut enough to prevent them from striking out at someone who is… using them in that fashion. Those manacles would make an effective cudgel to boot.
There is however definitely something off about this.

Thank you. I wrote that at work (I had to run in briefly because of a car being let in for eventual searching once a warrant is obtained), and while driving home realized I screwed up. He was electrocuted by the mage, not burned by the acid. By the time I got home it was too late to edit it… oh well…
