American Football American Football - More than just pirates, but raiders!

Raiders

This is another team with their symbols common among most teens. I am not sure why, if it was just a fad or feel, but anyone who knows American Football must at least have seen the Raiders in action one time or the other.

The Oakland Raiders began play in 1960 as part of the American Football League (AFL). After a sluggish start to the franchise, and the emergence of Al Davis in 1963, the Raiders became the most dominant team during the 10 years of AFL existence. The NFL and AFL officially merged in 1970 allowing the Raiders to expand the horizons of competition and dominance. After 43 years of play, the Raiders have a .500 or better record against 28 of 31 teams in the National Football League.

Raiders Remain Winless in Preseason

AP - Randy Moss finally scored his first touchdown for the Raiders, and it almost seemed he didn't know what to do when it happened. A wide-open Moss caught a 40-yard TD pass from Kerry Collins, but the Raiders remained winless in the preseason with a 17-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night.

Raiders.

I am an Kansas City Chiefs Fan by birth, nature, and at heart. I have a built in hatred of the Oakland Raiders. People wear their gear because it looks cool. Half of the teens wearing them will swear allegiance to them and not know a single player on the team. I cannot think of a worse team to idolize than Raiders. Normally you pick teams that win allot or teams that historically have been perpetual winners like the 49ers. But the raiders, through their bad boy image have been able to keep a steady nationwide following through good times and bad. Other teams have changed their logos and colors in an attempt to gain the kind of color and symbol recognition that the raiders have.

Kerry Collins, the current QB of the Raiders, was released yesterday, in what many believe is a move to make room for Daunte Culpepper. If Culpepper were to join the Raiders, he would be reuinted with his favorite target over the years in Randy Moss. Collins has had a rollercoaster career, and did reach both the NFC championship game with the Carolina Panthers, and the SuperBowl with the NY Giants. With the shortage of QB's in the NFL, I have no doubt he will find a job somewhere.

Dante Culpepper has said he will play out his contract if not traded. What I'm curious about is who would they trade for? If raiders are trying to win a super bowl, then they can't really afford to give away and key players, and it is going to cost them allot to get Culpepper.

I saw a news flash on ESPN today that the Raiders signed ex-Saints QB Aaron Brooks to a 3-year deal. Personally, I think this was a good move by Oakland in signing a veteran QB who still has a lot of talent. I can't wait to see what he and Randy Moss will be able to do together. Plus, he is very mobile; something that Collins lacked.
