KN, I have a request here. We roll spot and listen checks so much. Is there any way that we can use the 5e rule and maybe take the best of either our spot or listen and call it perception? Then just make one roll for perception. It makes things easier. Rolling spot plus listen is a waste of time compared to just rolling for perception in my opinion. I've played in another 3.5 game where we did that. Just an idea. I'll go with whatever you wish KN. Edited: Kyrroeth on 3rd Dec, 2017 - 1:43am
If it is easier for everyone and everyone wants to do this I have no issues with it. One roll is as easy as three listing them as L,S,S or Listen, search, spot. Just selecting three rolls instead of one as perception. Everyone can weigh in on this.
I for one am not particularly concerned about rolling those three separately.
What I would however ask you to consider is letting those checks ride until there is some use for them, instead of holding up the game every time we turn a corner.
For myself, when it comes to Listen and Spot, there is a difference of a single +1 and -1... So I'd just make a "Perception" roll without any modifiers. Simply enough solution.
Still though, the idea of a passive Perception is something to consider as we are rolling often. Having a single roll or set number we use unless actively seeking to perceive something will allow us not to roll the same thing on every turn or ten minutes.
